Has any put mud guards/flaps on your z4? Do you suggested?

I have two questions here:

1) Has anyone put mud guards/flaps on the z4? If yes, you mind sending me a pic of how it would look like. I hurt quite a few people said it doesn't look nice on a roadster. The only reason I am doing it - is for paint protection! But, still debating if I should put it or not cause it's like $180 for both the front and back.

2) I notice in my trunk under carpit where the bactery is, there is this bag that contains a screw driver and a medal thing for towing.(please see attached picture) But the bag has two empty spots, I was wondering if I am missing something. Do you guys have these, or is there other things in the car I am supposed to have?

I in the trunk I have exactly the two tools, seem to be lacking something, but I have it just like you.

Hi! One of the missing items is the locking wheel socket for the anti theft bolt on the wheels. If you don't have these on your car then you wont have one!
That is about it, I use the other slots for a wheel socket and carry a wheel wrench even though I have runflat tyres. I do this as once in my 6 series I broke down due to a wheel coming loose and I could not tighten the bolts, major lesson learned never again!!!!
I also carry a tool that helps to put a wheel back on by screwing into one of the bolt holes so you can hand the wheel in preparation for putting the rest of the bolts on !!!!!

As for mud flaps, yes they do protect the bodywork but do not have the best look!!!
Here is a tip!!!! there is a anti chip panel from a BMW 6 series which I have fitted to the rear qtr on the side skirt in front of the rear wheels, being clear plastic you can barely see them but they protect the bodywork from stones kicked up by the front tyres!!!!

Had mudflaps fitted too mine prior to pickup from the dealer. They look fine on the Zed and don't detract from the looks at all. I wanted too minimise any chances of stones being kicked up and chipping the sills and rear bumper.

Hi They look fine! it is a pity they cannot be colour coordinated to the car! It is the first time I have seen them fitted and I have black sapphire!! given the state of the roads in the UK probably a smart move!!!

I'm sure they could be prepped for spraying but I reckon on black sapphire they would blend in as standard. For some reason they ain't cheap for the E89 and don't understand why

It is typical BMW pricing on new cars everything expensive! funnily there was an OEM set on Ebay and because I was not sure I passed them by, they were a good price to!! Having seen yours now, Doh!

Hi here are a couple of pics, bear in mind that it has been raining and I just took a quick pic, can even see some polish and bubble because I did not wet it enough when I slid them on! Having said this when you stand away from the car you can barely see them, plus they already have lots of hits from stones already!!!

No they are stick on!!! Use soapy water dip them in, once the paper has been pealed off! then manipulate into place, ensure you press out all the air bubbles and once dry they do not come off easy if you make a mistake, but cheap enough if you do get it wrong. The part number is on realoem trim parts...... Remember these are paintwork chip protection!!!

Had it on my black when I got my car but I do not recommend it. The black mudflaps dont really blend in with the black bumpers and takes out the sportiness of the car especially after I put on 295wide 20inch wheels. Glad I got it off when I exchanged my bumper with someone who had a 3d diffuser when I got the quad exhaust.

Its down to whether you value the paintwork over vanity

Thanks for the tip Raven333! That spot on the skirts is very prone to chipping. You wonder why BMW doesn't put protection like that on from factory.

It is item 9 They don't look much in the diagram but that is what they are!! Actually some of the parts in this kit I never worked out where they fitted on my 6 series!!! But as you can see they are not expensive!!! They fit in the same place on the 6 series so you cannot go wrong, just adjust as best you can on the lines of your Z4......

Hi Tim! I think you will find it hard to get a decent cut to trim them, as they are quite tough clear plastic, which is why I fitted them along the back edge into the corner as I worked out that this would be the hardest hit by stones. As I mentioned once on the car you cannot really see them......... with your colour car they will disappear!!!!

Brill cheers for the advice, ordered a set last night from BMminiparts, quite cheap so worth fitting, I'll probably leave trimming if its a pain to do. Thanks for your help
