Yet another tire thread...

I've searched this site and others and can't find a definitive answer...

I've got a 2011 Z4 35i w/ Sport package and the 19" 296 wheels. I have the OEM runflats, which are summer tires. Current tires are 225/35R19 in the front and 255/30R19 in the rear.

I want to put on non-runflat all season tires. I've read all the debates about all season tires vs having dedicated winter sets and am positive I want an all season set. I'd rather not need new wheels as well.

My issue is finding a set of all season tires in the correct size. I searched tirerack.com and there's no all season tires in the same sizes. They do show an 'optional' 19" size of 235/35-19 and 265/30-19 for which they have the Continental ExtremeContact DWS.

My questions are, and pardon my tire/wheel ignorance:

Will this tire work on my existing rims?

What do other people, with these rims do for an all season alternative?

19" tires will fit on 19" rims. The question is, as you increase tire dimensions (width and aspect ratio), will these tires still fit on your car without rubbing the fenders. Someone with more experience than me at Tirerack, or here, can answer that for you.

Agree. An email to tirerack will quickly answer your questions for sure. My 2¢, I'd be shocked if going up 10 mm would give you a problem.

I agree as well, 10mm should not cause an issue but I dropped them an email to confirm it.

I run that setup, its Perfect.

Since BMW builds in a bit of error in the speedo, it actually reduces the error. No rub issues etc.

Now as for All Season tires. I think its a bad choice.

Runflats serve a purpose but are compromised. Ride Quality.

All Seasons are similar it they have a purpose but are compromised. Grip, performance in dry etc.

Dedicated summer and Winter tires make the most of of what you need.

View Tirerack winter tire videos and you will see how crappy All Season tires are during winter driving.
Now they don't show it but its the inverse in summer.

All Season are lame.

I understand that the all seasons have a trade off that many people don't like. In my situation though, it's a much better trade off than the summer only runflats.. and slgihtly better than having to store/manage/purchase an additional set of wheels/tires

I went with the Continental DWSs. I didn't want to drop the extra money for Michelins. I have 296s as well and went with 225 / 265 setup.

So far I'm very happy with it. Ride is much better over bumps. It's actually reasonably supple which is pretty impressive considering its short wheelbase & 19" wheels.

Mercedes ships there C class cars with All Season Continental Tires. I drove my C350 4 MATIC with Continental All Season Tires fro 2 winters and never ever found any issues. Just wanted to share my thoughts on the All Season Continentals ... as to fitting them on your Z I think someone at TireRack as others pointed out will be of great help to you, if that is the route you like to go. In my own case when I drove my Z4 I had 2 sets of wheels one for the summer and a noter set for the winter.

I run the exact size you propose: 235/35-19 and 265/30-19. We have had Continental DW and now Michelin PSS on our little e89. No problems at all and the speedometer still reads 2 mph over whatever the actual speed is we are traveling. These tires are light years better than the oem RFTs.
