Air Conditioner

Got in my car today, took the top down and it wasn't until I got to my first stop that I noticed the AC wasn't running. No fan, no nothing! Started and stopped the car 3 times, just as a wft to see what would happen, and nothing.

Made my purchased, returned to the Zee, cranked it up (this time with the fob in the ignition) and AC started right up like it should.

Very strange. Anyone experience a similar problem?

Note - when I took initial delivery last month, the AC and fan (and heater) would not work. 20 minutes in the service bay fixed the issue, it was in "transportation" mode for vehicle shipping. Since then, no issues until now.

My A/C appears to be working perfectly. It was well below freezing on my way to work the last few days, though, so it's possible that was just ambient outside air...

Mine is working just fine now. So is the top down function! I've had enough of Jose "cool" days you are describing. I'll take my 75-80 degree weather every day!!!

Will put mine in the shop next week. While this is a good temp fix (I presume) it's not practical in the long run. Something is amiss as the a/c stopped today AGAIN while getting gas at the start of our three hour trip. Could not get it to come back on, and with the trunk full of our trip gear, wasn't inclined to yank it all out to try the fix. On the bonus side, was 80F and sunny.

Checked the a/c out tonight after dinner, cranked the Z up and a/c came on instantly. So whatever the issue, seems to disappear after leaving the car off for several hours.

Talked to the BMW service director today. He said it sounded like a short in the system or in the head unit on the dash. Whichever, he seemed to not find this to be a problem he has come across before. So, I will book a service appt for later this week, after I remove the SmartTop module. I don't think it wise to leave it in place as they might be going into that area....

I never had the issue reoccur after the 3 initial failures during the first month of ownership. It's now been six months, so, knocking on wood!!!

At the time, I wasn't overly confident the service techs would find the issue, as the service manager didn't seem to have a clue about the problem. I explained it so a 3rd grader could understand, and he turned around and asked me to video if it happened again. If it happens again, I will video, make a service visit, and post here the results, if any....

I've had the same prb here: http://e89.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=715456

It hasn't reoccurred yet (knock on wood), but I'm going to get it checked again if it does.

iDrive control module was replaced under warranty. When I picked up the car, AC was dead. So I left it with the dealer. Next day they said they did a master reset and it started working again. Please see:
