Was this leak caused by wear ?

Am starting to get worried...

Thanks.
Once or twice a week from April to November. I don't drive the car every day. Had it for 4 years.

For those w/ roof prbs, do you always operate it w/ the engine running or off?

You're supposed to do it with the engine running. See manual, page 39.

Also, do you operate the roof with the car in motion or do you always stay parked until the the roof has completed it's cycle ? and does "smart top" or other roof restriction overrides involved?

Good questions. Also would like to know if OP has the newer/better roof mechanism (presumably not since it's MY2010?)? I don't have it either, my MY2011 was apparently the last yr w/ the old tech, not to mention the lousy double flappy paddles aargggh.

Agreed. Running the engine assures full power for the pump. However, for those of us with leaked and or electrical shorts caused by routing it's a non issue.

Ironic though that the CAS allows opening the top from outside the car via the fob.

Good to know. I just do it to not drain the battery.

My business partner is having problems with her car roof.
Got to go in again tomorrow so they can try another fix.
The service desk rep. said to her last week when it was "fixed" not to use the roof so often!
She has used it twice in one year and on both occasions it got stuck.

Tranquility, the newer roof mechanism came out in mid 2012. I just missed it by a few months.

Rofl what a ridiculous thing to say. Thank you for buying a convertible, just don't use the convertible bit much.

That sucks. I wish BMW put more thought into our cars. All these improvements are hard to stomach for those that missed them.

Yes, that lady probably uses it the least of all owners...twice/year?? I'm really having 2nd thoughts about convertibles when my next car purchase time comes.

What is this improvement? Is that the one that lets you move the roof when the car is going 10km/h or slower? or something else?

That's the way it is with all cars as they age. Next time buy when the model is in it's last couple of years of production.

Ya, but we got ours 2-3 yrs into initial production, didn't expect those quite significant changes.

Original paddles: Push at the top (either paddle) to downshift, Pull at the bottom (either paddle) to upshift
New +/- paddles: Left paddle is downshift, Right paddle is upshift

I'm using the roof twice a day. 5 days a week (in average). Since 4 years. No issue (until now). I've got the SmartTop and most of the time, I open/close the roof while driving. The issue is clearly not related to the usage but, as Zettvier explained, to the way the hydraulic hoses are positioned. That's the first thing to check next time that you visit the dealership, imho.

New roof mechanism or just the new paddle orientation? I'm surprised if it's the roof too cuz I'm pretty sure it came out mid year 2012. My car was built in 2/12 and I don't have it.

Definitely the new +/- paddle orientation.

I can open and close the roof up to 10 km/h, is that the old setup? I might be confused about the roof parts
