Rafale - thanks for the reply, took 15 minutes this morning and the car is booked in Thursday for a complete reload, which requires 4 hours. Was shown the PUMA paperwork, interesting set of triggers for this behavior:

Car must be in SPORT mode
Engine must be above 72 C
Transmission must be in 3rd Gear when the brake is applied
Speed must drop below 15 kph

actually it happens when not in sport mode as well, but the outside air temperature has to be really hot (95f or above). however, since the software fix, i have not had this issue occur again even though temps have been above 100f here in austin, tx.

btw, sorry to thread jack, my advisor told me that the farts and burps of my exhaust went away because of the high humidity and temperature (i just never made the connection), now that it's been less than 80 and drier i got the farts and burps back, now it's loud just like it used to be.

May I ask if anyone with a 3.0 MANUAL, had further issues with a whinning sound from the aircon, when it's on, on a hot day? Feedback would be appreciated, since our summer is starting again, and so is the aircon whine now also back

Guys, I had mine fixed quickly. Miami has a huge amount of z4s and hot weather so the issue was more evident here. Just ask the dealer to update the software and you will be fine. When I mentioned to the dealer they already kknew about it. If your dealer can't help you call, BMW South, in Miami

Does anybody have a copy of this bulletin? I have the same problem with my sdrive23i, and my dealer is claiming that they can't find the service bulletin.

Many thanks.

Are they looking at the BMWNA data base?

I'm in Hong Kong, so they're probably not looking at the NA database

This should give them enough to go on...

Thanks to everyone for this thread. I brought my 2010 Z4 30i in and complained about the stalling in sport mode at 80 degrees F. They did a software update and it seems to have fixed this issue. It also seems to have updated the Nav software load as well. Not sure if related. But in the process, it does wipe out any messages sent to the car (e.g. from Google Maps), and wipes recent destinations. Also programming of the radio smart buttons was lost. Dealer was Stevens Creek BMW in Santa Clara CA. Cost $0.

Sorry for bring up the old thread.
Does anyone with a car built after March 2010 have this issue?
Mine was built on May 2010.
It happens in hot temp (Texas) low speend (stop at red or pulling into parking) with Normal mode.
I went to the dealer and the tech told me my software is uptodate, and they did not see any error code.

TIA

What happens is, while stopping at a traffic light, the car engine suddenly shut itself down (I have a 30i with auto transmission) while I was on my brake and in gear (D or M/S mode)

When the car engine was off, the engine fault light lights up and remains on.

When I try to start the car again the car starts fine and there is no warning or anything (checked my Idrive vehicle information and its not showing anything.)

I actually recently took my car to carry out some warranty work, and mentioned that particular issue to them, and they didn't really say anything or check anything it seems.

I have been overseas recently so haven't driven my car much (currently only done 600Kms). Anyone here have any ideas on what could be going wrong?

Thanks.

Regards,
Eric
