How do you clean inside of rear window?

Having trouble cleaning the inside of the rear window. It's getting misty. Tried to stop the roof down action halfway but it doesn't stay there for long.

how are others approaching it? (or maybe not approaching it).

Managed to clean it when lowering the roof. It takes a few goes to get to the desired position of access to the window. Good luck!

mav.
10 " long Piece of 3/4" square stock. Inserting the stick manually during roof closure. I release the closure (lock) button as the rear roof section pivots over the center point and hold the roof as it bleeds downwards while inserting the wood peg. Just remember to open (Unlock) the roof to release it, as closing the roof with the stick in place would likely cause damage.

I've found that the best solution is to have a wife/girlfriend who is only five feet tall with small hands. Useful for cleaning the alloys too!

You know you're driving a Z4 when you can't have a gf who is taller than 5 feet :-)

To those who hold the roof open for a period of time will ultimately damage the hydraulics, the roof was never designed to stop half way through the cycle so damage will occur. BMW will not warrant the repair!! As the function is monitored in the electronics and can generate a fault code!!!!!!
I know it is a pig to clean but holding the roof mid-cycle and then releasing the button to cause it to stop will cause problems. On some cars it has lead to the roof remaining open!!!!!!!!!

I don't see how this will damage the hydraulics as the roof is stationary when you are cleaning the window. There is also no other way to lubricate all the seals without opening the top halfway.

Hi ! As with all things it is up to the individual to decide what they will do, if you are happy to do it then that is also fine.
Advice is freely given, it is up to the individual to decide if they want to use it!!!!!
I would guarantee if you speak to a genuine BMW mechanic he will tell you why it is not a good thing!!!!! This is how I found out !!!

I have found that forum members from the UK are extremely wary of doing anything that can remotely cause damage to their car because the only thing BMW warranties in England is that there is no warranty.

Hi! I don't disagree with your statement, in fact I would endorse it even more. In the UK the manufacturers especially BMW and Mercedes are acting in an appalling manner with respect to warranties, it is almost as though they do not give a damn. Every opportunity not to do something or muddy the waters of accountability they will wriggle and ignore the customers. It will come back to bite them as other top end marques realize that they could take an opportunity to gain market share, but it is a long process!!!
The biggest issue is the relationship between the dealers and the manufacturer, they both abdicate accountability by quoting that it is the other parties responsibility and the customer sits there wondering what the hell is going on.

I would just stop the procedure of opening roof in the middle and the clean it (with no supporter stick or something like that). You have 2-3 minutes time to clean it then the roof will go automatically back in postition "closed". This way all should be fine with roof mechanism.

That's definitely looks like it will do the job. Only available in the US I take it. Will have to have a hunt around something similar.

Me too. I sit on the center console facing the back window (motorcycle-style) and wipe away

I just stop mine mid way. I have left it there for quite some time with the key inserted and it did not close completely. Never timed it but maybe next time i will.
