New (old) Z4 owner
I had a 2003 2.5i Z4 for 4 years. Sold it about a year ago due to other needs. I have been missing the Z4 and was looking at buying a 2007, then I sat in a 2009 and I just couldnt buy the older style anymore, it seemed inferior in all ways.
The new Z4 is better looking IMOP The interior is much more refined and more like a luxury car The top gives you the choice of a coupe or a convertible, and how it stows is pretty cool The stereo is better, I can use Mp3 CDs or even a memory stick Some told me I should drive the 35i and I would never look back. I drove the 30i and It had more power then I would ever need. I don't plan on driving the track, so street performance is all I needed I decided I wanted the Deep Sea Blue with the Tan Seats I searched across the country and found the best deal in Houston on a 2009 30i sdrive with 14 months left on the Manufacturers warranty PLUS the certified warranty I flew down to Houston and drove it the 1100 miles home and I still very jazzed about it. This along with my Land Cruiser gives me the perfect set of toys for what I want to do. The seats are much more comfortable. The ride seems better and the power is much better. I like the option for a memory stick or ipod. After putting in a memory stick, I wonder why waste the expense of an ipod. I had to check back and make sure the memory stick powered down This is a much better vehicle then the 2003 I had. I like the fact it's more luxurious as well as better performing.

Congrats on Z4 purchase! That's the headlight pop washer if your car is equipped with Cold Weather Package. If not, then it's just a cover you can get here: Part # 51117231092

I played with the Memory stick and put all the songs at the root directory and works great on Random. No need for an ipod
I do have some questions. Looking at my Vin I have the following two options S693A Preparation BMW satellite radio S697A Area-Code 1 for DVD That makes me think it's pre-wired for Sat Radio and maybe a DVD/CD Changer. I only saw an option for a CDchanger. I don't have NAV or iDrive so what is the DVD region code 1 (for us) option on the VIN. Is there any information on whats pre-wired for this and where the connectors are. From a search I see its pre-wired to add the GPS with clear instructions and also pre-wired for the alarm. I also would like to know if there is an option to add the capability to control the roof with the remote. That would be a nice option to add if its easy and I would like to be able to do this myself if possible

I am back, again
I sold the Z4 to rebuild a 1977 FJ40 Land Cruiser. I have been missing it so I just bought a 2011 Black Sapphire with Walnut seats. The color combo just pops to me. Since I didnt have to sell one of my other cars, I am planning on keeping this one. I now have all the vehicles I want. A 2014 Built Land Cruiser for off roading, a 1977 FJ40 Land Cruiser as a collector vehicle and now my new to me Z4. I also have an off road Kimberley Karavan I imported from Australia

Really enjoying the iDrive. I didnt understand before it was more than navigation. Thought I dint need it so didnt get it with my 2009. I am glad I held out on the 2011 for it. I liked being able to upload my entire Music collection into the onboard storage.
The Z4 came with new Bridgestone RFTs. I remember on my 2009 I swapped to Michelin tires and ditched the RFTs. Hard to throw away $1000 of new tires. I will have to ponder that one. My 2009 didnt have the Comfort access and I bought the smart module. This one has it so I dont need to plug the key in My 2014 Land Cruiser doesnt require the key inserted to anything and I have gotten use to it. I have to remember when I drive my 1977 FJ40 to take the keys with me

Can any one give me advice? Z4M or Z4 sdrive35is
Currently driving a 135i. Love the car, however, I used to have a miata, and want a roadster again, especially before having kids here soonish. My needs: I will be doing several track days in summers so the car I want should be hopefully better than my 135i (stock). I also would enjoy GT touring and ideally the car can do longer trips (2-3 hours) with comfort and my iphone's music. Also, I would drive all year, until I eventually add a family size car as a third in a few years. Is the Z4 35is/35i as bad on a track is the reviewers make it out to be? My research shows the m adaptive suspension makes it nearly as tight as the old Z4m. All the reviews and videos the person never puts it into sport plus to test it out and then complains about the luxury style ride. Is sport plus just not a big change? My other concern with the 35is is the weight and transmission. I have the ZF 6 in my car and I like it but dont love it. Is the DCT a vast improvement? I'd prefer a stick however, there are NONE for sale in the midwest that I have ever seen so I don't expect to find a 35i with a stick anytime soon. I will likely dinan the car up to 400hp to make up for the weight so I'm not particularly worried about that. With the Z4M I like everything I read about it with the exception of its age. How have they aged? My car is an 09 and looks IMO like a brand new car interior wise, and despite its lack of trendy tech like apple car play and a touch screen, I don't mind plugging in my phone to the aux cord, the sound quality it better than bluetooth anyway. Is the nav system in the M worth buying or does it show the cars age. So right now the Z4M seems like a safe bet, but is it too old? Will I be constantly in the shop etc. The N54 is an engine I am familiar with and am comfortable with the maintenance schedule to fix its problems. The Z4Ms engine I know nothing about. In my shoes, what would you pick? The price drop on the Z4M is also appealing, but to me the 35is is stunning and looks better/newer than the upcoming model. The M, imo also looks newish but is beginning to show age. How is road noise on the highway? Miata was always super loud and thus my wife h ated it. My last question for you guys. Is the refresh model of the 35is worth the price inflation? Do you get the new key style, interior? Thanks!! |

You should create your own thread. I can't help you with your questions. I don't take mine to the track and this is really a separate subject
