Will the engine warranty be voided if I change the exhaust system?

Eisenmann exhaust just came out with QUAD for S23i
http://www.eisenmann-sportauspuff.de...e23i_150kW.php
Is this mod will void the engine warranty?

Yes they can!

You changed one component of the system. It will be a hard time for you to prove that an engine problem is not caused by installing and using the new exhaust system.

it is hard to believe but I guess based on what I have been through recently with BMW - they may try it; still, upgraded mufflers can't hurt and engine!

BMW may void your warranty BUT I don't see how an exhaust (something so mechanically simple) will affect the engine in anyway. Unless you custom made one in your own garage then sure then voiding would be very likely. BUT if you are considering the Eisenmann then rest assured your vehicle and its warranty will be fine.

what do you do with the rear bumper, do you have to cut wider holes and repaint?

look - BMW would have to prove the exhaust damaged the engine or I would have to prove it did not; can any gear-head on this site explain to me in simple language how Eisenmann exhaust or any other quality exhaust could DAMAGE the engine??? really, could it??? I am no mechanic but I can in no way think of how letting the engine release more heat and exhaust out the back could damage the motor. I can imagine that running shortened straight headers could be a problem b/c, as I understand it, motors need some backpressure to operate properly

A matter of law. In US, warranties cannot be 'voided' by the manufacturer (Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act). But a manufacturer can always disallow a claim if a non-standard installation can be shown to have caused the damage that was repaired. The dealer would be the one to start the denial process. After that, it's a matter of claim, arbitration, and perhaps a court case should you decide to fight the denial.

Will an after-market exhaust system cause engine damage? Probably not. It gets dicier with tuning chips and other mods that leave fingerprints all over the ECU. And which may indeed cause harm sooner or later.
