Increase in cabin rattles after new tires at speed (Michelin PSS)
Just put on PSS all round, went wider. Smooth ride, much quieter than the RFT's. Very happy.
However just noticed on the highway at speed I can hear a whole load more rattles from the front dash area on less than perfect tarmac. I am wondering if this is due to the fact that the tires are so much quieter than the RFTs at speed and I'm just hearing what was covered up by the noisy RFTs before??? No vibration in the steering or unusual behaviour so I doubt its the wheel balance etc. At lower speeds on good road the NVH is as good as a normal car and much better than RFTs. Would going to 235s at the front do this? |

Could be a poorly balanced tire. It becomes more noticeable at highway speeds, but the road quality shouldn't be a factor. I'd have the installer check that.

Thanks for the replies. It is as if vibrations from an imperfect road are being transmitted through the chassis.
I am using 40psi in the front tires which is what I used for the RFTs....maybe this is too high? |

I believe stock psi is 36F/42R. but that's not going to cause your vibrations.

Yeah it's just this particular stretch of highway.
I think the vibrating noise is coming from the top of the dash or where the roof meets the top edge of the windshield. Like the whole area has developed a buzz that wasn't there before with the RFTs. Just sounds like the whole dash needs to be tightened up. Going to try lowering the tire pressures and spraying some silicon in the dash creases. The old RFTs I remember were particularly noisy on this stretch of highway so that makes me think they covered up all this noise I am now hearing. Can't feel any vibration through the steering which tells me the wheel balance is OK. |

I am experiencing the other side of the coin... the Dunlop ZII I have installed are so much louder than the stock tires my car suddenly seems rattle free... |

Hahaha that's actually a great thing!! I am thinking of what another forum member did and spray silicon everywhere.
