BMW Performance brakes
Hi all!
I've done a search, but i cannot find anything related here in the forum. Are the FRONT Bmw Performance brakes E9x plug and play with the E89? Regards from Portugal! |

I think CSL + BMW perf. BBK is excellent choice!!
Just don't go with RFT with CSL rims. BUY non RFT!!

But, I don't think it will be necessary.

Some Brembo might work, but not guaranteed.

I hate to say this but I don't think the original CSL wheels will fit in the rear end. Technically they might rub, 10J could cause that. 8,5 front and 9,5 rear with eta 35 both would fit ideally but only replicas, namely alufelgen and vmr. Hope you will settle things down.
Can't wait to see the outcome, I 'm sure it will be classy. Keep us posted. |

One more thing, if these 4 or 6 pistons Brembo/bmw performance brake are much powerful than the Z4 OEM front break... And when driving at a relatively high speed, and you suddenly break hard, I mean hard enough to avoid a collision... Wouldn't the more powerful brakes create an unpredicted behavior/handling compare to the OEM anticipated behavior, due to the big difference in brake power distribution between the Front and Rear breaks???? |

Thank you all for the feedback!
TaYab, i'm not a big fan off spacers, i'm after a clean solution.. Land_Shark, i'm most certain it will not. I had previously this setup on a E81 and the diference was huge. you should have also a software upgrade so that all the electronics adjust to the new set. Herrk, i'm looking for aesthetics, but also for a bit more fade resistant and brake feel. For the track these are rubbish, you have many examples over the net of BBK BMW Performance all smashed up, due to track abuse. I think the 23i braking is very different from the 30 and the 35..hence the interest of the swapp. The latter are just fine with their factory brakes. |

I am not sure as well... Will need to spend sometime and research on that...
But from a Mechanical Point of View, the bigger the difference of braking between rear and front, the bigger the distribution of weight/behavior is altered... |

Land_Shark, the ratio braking between fronts and rears is around 80% to 20% or less.. The fronts are dooing all the hard labour..

The unlimited top speed of the 3.5i & 3.5is is much higher than the 2.3 or 3.0. The larger swept area of the 3.5 brake is the designers concession to this fact. Even though the 3.0,3.5i & 3.5is are electronically limited to 155 mph the engineers, lawyers, and corporate officers do not want to be held liable for a underdesigned safety systems.
When comparing the stock calipers to the performance calipers one of the key things to remember is the active liquid piston area of the caliper. Since in the case of the E9X performance brake kits - which consist of rotors, calipers, & pads (no master cylinder). The performance caliper liquid piston area must be near equivalent to the stock caliper piston area or a master cylinder with a larger piston would be required. So BMW sells this kit for that particular model because they know the effective piston areas of the mater cylinder and the performance or stock calipers are equivalent. Don't you think if this was a simple "Plug and Play" installation to use the E90X kit on the E89 that BMW would jump at the chance to make an easy buck. Obviously people have installed the E9X performance frt kits on the E89 and it stops the car. Do you want to risk your life on this "word of mouth - it fits and stops the car" at 100+ mph? Not me, I'll wait till BMW or aftermarket release proper engineered components.

It is also true that it has not been confirmed by BMW. But, I don't think BMW is going to release performance bbk for our cars because of lack of interests according to BMW at least.

I have upgraded to the performance brakes. Done some hard driving and braking too. One time, I was taking corners at speed and did not realise that a stationary bus was at the end of the bend. I may have survived because of the the extra grip on the performance brakes. I will not want to go back to the ugly looking smallish and flimsy looking OEM brakes. May not have been able to type this note if I have not upgraded.

Interesting experience to share with us solidgold... I think we need more of the folks who have installed the BBK on their E89 to share with us their experience.
I spoke to my service manager at BMWHK, he advised that if I go with the BBK FRT they will not include any break check in their annual complete check out. Mind you, that on my E93, I had the BBK; they were installed by a 3rd party but were approved by BMW. And on this same annual complete check, the breaks were checked and ticked... I guess this mean something, doesn't it... I am siding with Herrk on that one. |
