Music via Bluetooth on e89

Hi all.

Is there any way I can get Bluetooth to play music from my iPhone? Some aftermarket mod of some kind?

I have a iPod mini hooked in via cable at the moment but what I really want is Bluetooth.

I have a Motorocker (?) from Motorola in my truck. It connects the phone by bluetooth to the system through a radio frequency.
There are probably several options of that type available.

My two cents:

If your car has Bluetooth for phone and not audio (like many earlier models) Then I recommend Tunelink. It is good but $$$. The earlier adapters would overheat but I think they fixed the issue. It is the ONLY model that powers up and connects automatically when you start the car. (most other adapters have an on/off button and you have to manually turn them on)

The other choice would be Belkin. They offer lots of adapters.

I think you should stick with the USB cable. Audio quality is better, and the phone charges.

Aux input + bluetooth seems like worst of all world situation

Do you have a USB port? I use my stock Apple lightning cable, the sound is better than bluetooth, it charges and I control everything with idrive.

Look for a symbol that looks like a fork with 3 points under media or something.

Use the white one that came with the phone from apple and plug into the car's USB directly

That's what I used for my '12 without no idrive

The USB port alone in earlier models does not play or control music. It only charges. You have to use the Y cable that comes with the car, which plugs into both the aux port and the USB port to play or control music.

Bought it, love it. Thank you for posting this. Not only can you listen to play lists and control from the steering wheel, you can also do the same for Pandora!

I bought the Tune2Air WMA 3000B for my 2011 z4 and it works great! My question: can I leave the device plugged in 24/7 or should I unplug when car is parked? I'm worry about draining the battery.........

When the car fully powers down this unit will be offline..so no concerns about battery draining…

Compared to other OE solutions it’s poorer quality but it’s your only choice probably..

As you'll see in the photos.... It has to be the combined AUX/USB socket, not just a 12v accessory USB adaptor as it transmits the data through the OE socket

When you say you are playing music from the stick ..how is that done?..do you download music from the stick to the headunit via the USB port in the glovebox or via a USB port in the oddments centre tray?

If it’s the latter a lightning to usb connector should render your iPhone as an iPod as far as the E89 is concerned and should play an audio on the IPhone

I bought a Bluetooth AUX adapter from Amazon. Plugs into the 3.5mm phono socket in the centre console and works perfectly with my iPhone 13!
