Extended leather package
Does anyone ever buy the option: extended leather? I am considering this option when I order my 2012 35is.
Here is the question. I have seen that the trim of the 2011 Z4's are normally two-tone. The dash and the upper door trim is black, and then the seats, etc. are the color of your choice. Is this true for those of you who have bought a 2010-11 Z4? If I wanted to maintain this two tone effect, with beige seats and black trim, do I order the beige extended leather (and BMW will know that the seats and console will be beige and the dash and upper doors black) or will I have to option black extended leather with a beige interior. This is probably a stupid question, but the dealer doesn't know and I want to make sure it gets ordered right. Thanks. |

The extended leather only comes in black.
From a distance looks exactly the same as the plastic dash. Only when you are in it do you see the stitching and the different texture of the leather. You have nothing to worry about. The only way to get any different colours on the upper dash area was with the (now discontinued) Ivory package. It had a ivory leather panel at the same height as the instruments instead of the black leather panel that all the other colour options get when they go for the extended leather. IMO it brightened the cockpit area considerably compared to the black leather. I'm not sure if any of the new special option colour interiors will do the same.

Take a look at my post here:
http://e89.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=590137 There is a photo of the interior of my 2012 Z4 28i, standard beige leather sports seats with brushed aluminium trim, not extended leather. Personally I did not see the point of paying for the extended option. Hope that helps. |

The Extended Leather adds very nice leather touches along entire upper dashboard (black leather with stitching), lower dashboard (Ivory), driver and passenger arm rests, passenger door handle, entire upper portion of doors (black leather with stitching), center console arm rest and the area that runs down passenger side of center console.
I believe the Alcantara in seats and on doors and Ivory colored headliner (in lieu of Black headliner) may also have been part of either the Extended Leather package or the Ivory color scheme. I know the Ivory is not offered on model year 2012, but this at least gives you an idea of where all he leather is. Last edited by BlueZ4AZ; 09-26-2011 at 01:26 PM.. |

Thanks for your help guys. Those pictures were very helpful. The extended leather does add some elegance, although may not be for everyone. I think I'll order my car with it.

There may be a cultural difference here, but...
The extended leather in OZ is not the same as the Character package "pure white" which has the ivory leather (and has now been discontinued). Extended leather adds in the same extent of leather to the dash, but the extended bits are all black, including the dash strip that is at the same height as the air-con controls. i.e. Always in black irrespective of the interiour leather colour chosen. IMO it makes a huge visual difference. The pure white package looks so much lighter in the cabin due to the extra ivory strip than with the extended leather option where it is still black. I recommend that it would be best to see a true extended leather interior in your colour choice before you decide. The ivory will give you a false impression.

I also have the Ivory extended leather pkg that Blue posted pics of. For me it was worth it because I found the difference from the standard pkg to be significant.
