How's this price for a new Z4?

These are the offers I'm looking at:
  • 2010 35i: $4000 under invoice
  • 2011 35i/is: $250 over invoice for cars on the lot or ordered.
Good? Can do better?

Are you after a 35i or 35is?

Based at looking at dealer inventory in Southern California, Arizona and Nevada it appears that dealers are ordering the 35is better equipped than the 35i. So far there seems to be fewer of them on the lots (which makes sense), so there is likely a little more demand for the 35is than the 35i, hence the higher price pressure on the 35is.

Regardless, if you're after an 35is I'll bet you can get him down if you work a couple of dealers against each other. Just let the salesman know that your just browsing and comparing dealer inventories, because you've been to a couple lots looking at cars. I love to see that little tic develop on the salesman face when you say that. They tell you to stop it, but don't pay attention to them, just walk around like you got all the time in the world.

My real question is whether or not people are getting better deals than this. As for whether I'm looking for a 35i or 35is, I'm not sure yet. But at this point I'm being offered the same price on the car, regardless of whether it's on the lot or not.

Any input would be appreciated.

I did better on our "is" but it was a dealer demo. $250 over invoice would work for me if it was equiped with what I wanted.

$4k below invoice on an "i" sounds real good. That is $9k off of msrp. Hard to pass up.

Agreed. I only got $2500 below invoice for my 2010 35i. At $4k the dealer might actually be taking a loss.

I believe the dealer " holdback " is 5 % , so the dealer can sell below invoice and still make money. On a $60 K car, that 's 3K the dealer can still play with.

Do we know what incentives BMW is offering the dealers?

Here is a 2010 at Steven Creek BMW, Santa Clara, CA offering a pretty big discount of $7500 off and possibly push it close to $10k off:

At the time I bought my car BMW was giving $3500 to dealers for 2010s. So my dealer made $1k on the car which I thought was fair.
