Thanks Rolf,
I have also been lurking for sometime here and pickup a lot of useful info. Also following your wheel crack. I will receive mine with the same wheel/tire as yours. Thinking of changing non-RTF ASAP. Not sure if i could mount winter tire on these.

Don't change the wheels, just keep a sharp eye on them and check for cracks.

Find a way to elevate the car then clean the rim vertical inner face and check for hairline cracks ... that is how they start. I use a mirror and flashlight to inspect them once a month (both my rear wheels are new as you know). One was changed by BMW under warranty the other cost me $1,000- CDN with expenses. The jury is still out on it waiting for BMW to respond. I am not holding my breath on that one.

Once you see it get BMW to change it ... oh yes as long as you have the RFT avoid the slightest deviation in the road I do avoid everything right now like the plague

i mentioned this issue you had to the dealer, he was surprised/shocked. i will be taking mine in back to the dealership to check for hairline cracks in due course. he is a good guy, been on the mark. will keep you posted on this issue if an issue does arise.

also talked to him on break in period - coz, i thought in this day and age one doesn't need to do any of that. there seems to be a lot of mixed reviews on this. on the amount of kms for break in. 500 or 1000 or 1500; 4000rpm, 4500rpm or more(redline) to not be exceeded. his advise was first 500km keep revs mostly below 4500. 500-1000km mixed, occasionally can exceed 4500rpm.

one key point he mentioned(not just for Z4's but also on M3's) is avoid using launch control. you will end up degrading or possibly ruining your gear box after "x" number of times.

anyway, until i post pics, mine is sapphire back with that offwhite or ivory white interior. didn't get any freebies from him though(apart from that Z4 keychain).

just love that low level hum it produces.

Smart to keep an eye on them wheels, mine were manufactured in October 2008, there is a stamp to that effect on the backside on one of the spokes it is shown as 08 then followed by a series of dots (10 in all) meaning October.
Perhaps check the manufacturing date on yours, perhaps you don't have an issue.

Also remember I drove thru the Mohave Desert this year saw temperatures at 120 F at the lowest point (6 feet above seal level) then in the mountains 1/2 hour later it was down to 85 F ... so again you may not have a wheel issue, still keep an eye on it.

A key chain is what most of us got (the one with the dealer phone no) I don't use it I use my old M3 one, never give that one up, it has sentimental value

I would never use lunch control, I respect mechanical devices too much

The break in is mainly for European cars, remember no speed limit on most sections of the autobahn (except near towns and cities).

Enjoy your car, hope the rain stops soon

I love that vid. I have a couple of ripped copies hanging around and watched it another 10 times on the 'tube, too! Plain old TC - is it Top Cat or Traction Control?

Tiff Needell is great. In my book, he's right up there with Clarkson and Chris Harris.

Can't decide which M3 I like best, the e46 or e9x.

Ah that's great! Had mine since February. Been nothing but good to me. I'm pretty much the only e89 with aftermarket wheels on so it'll be easy to spot me. See you around!

looks stunning - the color combination looks aggressive and the front bumper is super cool (I wish we had the sport bumper).
