I think there is no option for cup holder for Right hand drive cars. The dealer here confirmed that, and i also read somewhere on the internet .

Can anyone from UK or any other RHD country confirm this. Did anyone come up with some alternate solution?

thanks.

My search continues. As stated in a previous post by tzdkom, it appears the BMW in the EU lists the Part# as '51 16 9 176 178' if you break down the contents of the retrofit kit Part# '51 16 2 156 851'. I checked with a friend in the UK and he is able to order the complete LHD Kit (51 16 2 156 851), but the individual component Part# 51 16 9 176 178 does not show up as a valid part number when searched for.

Jason at Tischer thinks that although a part number is assigned you might not be able to order it outside of the kit.

I did check the corresponding parts for the M6, and it's actually a little bit different of a design just as the 1 series is. However the corresponding is listed as Part# 51167906429 (Cup Holder Mount).

As you can see in the below diagram the angle differs quite a bit from the E89 design.

Dave you got an extra one, why not be a nice guy and ship it to ZeroG ?

ZeroG, Is the part you circled not attached to the cup holder?

If I where you I go to my friendly BMW dealership and ask them to help you, if indeed they shipped it to you with one item not included then BMW should be able to help you ordering it etc .. etc

Rolf,

If you review the threads again, I think you'll read that I had sold it some months ago.

It is not included with what would be called the Cup Holder (P/N:51 16 9 173 501). I went to the local deal and my pretty knowledgeable parts guy was not able to come with the part number either. The closest I can get is the retrofit kit (P/N:51 16 2 156 851) which lists the receptacle or cup holder mount as P/N:51 16 9 176 178. However, the retrofit kit BMW is not willing to ship to the states, and the individual part number for the final piece of my project does not seem to be available outside of the kit.

The only thing I can think of now is to find someone who with an E89 and the cup holder installed that can spend 10 minutes taking the center apart pulling the part out and seeing if there is a number on it. But, I have not had any luck so far.

Sorry, the only work I do on my E89 is changing the summer to winter wheels, checking the tire pressure on a regular basis and washing the car.

Different story on my E28 there I take everything apart and put it back together again.

PS. If I was you I talk to the Service Manager about that Parts Guy, I don't know if that guy knows his job description. One thing he can do is pick up a phone and get you (The Customer) the part number. There are ways if there is a will I always say. I would ask "Is there nobody here that knows a number to call?"

Hope you solve your problem.

For the E89 you will need:

51 16 9 173 501 Cup Holder [Item1]
61 31 7 682 091 Fillister head screw with collar [Item 7]
07 14 7 122 390 2.8X12MM Screws x 2

Cup Holder Mount Cover [Item 2] [this is to cover the cup holder mount if you want to remove it and have a clean look]
51 16 9 181 371 Ivory White
51 16 9 181 369 Black
51 16 9 181 372 Coral Red
51 16 9 181 370 Canberra Beige

None of these parts are used on any other car [except the screws]...
image courtesy of BMW Fans.info, best info could find, but double check with the dealer before you lay out any money, not sure how this would work on RHD as it sticks out almost a full hand width, right wear you left knee is...

Tell your parts guy he can find them under "Vehicle Trim", "Mounting parts, centre console"

Thanks for the info. It's actually all of the information that I posted in the first post of this thread. As you can see though even in your diagram the "Cup Holder Mount" or Female receptacle that the Cup Holder plugs into is not provided in the part numbers you listed.

I believe the multiple parts guys I have been working with are all competent and that they just aren't able to find the part numbers. I also have scoured the internet from end to end with no luck.
