35i lease - too high?

Hi all,

I'm interested in leasing a 2013 sDrive35i with the following options:

-Jet Black nonmetallic
-Beige Kansas leather
-M Sport package (replaces the standard sport package for $2500)
-Nav
-BMW Assist
-Premium sound

The premium package features and some other things (rear windscreen, etc) have been rolled into the MSRP for the 2013s. I'm looking at a 10k mi/year 3-year lease. I do qualify for the USAA incentive.

My CA is offering me the Z4 for $61,500 and seems pretty firm at that price point. I'm thinking this is a bit high - if BMWConfig.com is accurate, the list on this configuration is only $57,325. My payments would be in the mid 700s. This seems way, way higher than what most on here are paying.

What do you guys think?

Thanks,

Dan

EDIT: Looks like this should have gone in the delivery/pricing forum. I reposted it there. This can be deleted..

Hard to verify if this is too high without knowing the residual and money factor

I believe they were 64% and .00225, respectively. MSRP was approximately $63,450 with the 2013 pricing.

I personally think your MF is too high. I got my MF at 0.00165 last year.
After checking on edmunds.com, it seems like 0.00175 is the norm now.

http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/dir...index=.ef9d9d3

without knowing your downpayment, which I'm guessing they're asking somewhere between $2,000 - $3,000 - it didn't look like a good deal at all.

I would haggle on the price, then the MF, and after you reached the final number that you think is reasonable, ask your sales guy about BMW's multiple security deposit program to further lower the MF.

Yeah but I would rather take a m3 vert than a z4.

Multiple security deposits will help the money factor. Try a few dealers. The two sponsors on here offer the best deals. Ones in Cali and the Rhee in maryland I think.

I think it's time to take control from the dealership and start negotiating.

I started the lease on my 2012 35i in mid June and the MF was 0.00175 (I bought it down to 0.00124 with 7 multiple security deposits).

If you are able to find a 2012 configured the way you want, you should be able to get a much better deal. I got $2000 below invoice (which put the car at around dealer cost), which helped drive the cost of the lease down.

Definitely don't pay a cap cost reduction. Buy down the MF instead and get the capitalized cost reduced by negotiating a lower purchase price.

Double check on the residual also. It was 66% in June for a 2012. Could certainly be lower for a 2013 in July but you should check.

All in all, I believe there is room for improvement. the purchase price, MF and residual all seem above market rate.

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to be doing MSDs and $0 down. Here is what I ordered:

2013 sDrive35i
-Black Sapphire Metallic
-Canyon Brown extended Merino leather
-M sport package
-iDrive
-Cold weather package
-Premium sound package
-DCT
-BMW Assist
-Premium package features/ Comfort Access (standard)

Ended up settling for $1k over invoice, MF of .00185, $1200 due at signing. I might have been able to do better but my trade-in had some damage and needed parts replaced/resprayed so I didn't want to push it.

I'm wondering if I want to stay with BSM or if another color would match the Canyon Brown better...

Hey Dan,

Congrats, sounds like a nice car.

What is the $1200 due at signing for? If they are making you pay the $750 acquisition fee you should try to for a lower MF.

Have you checked the american express ZAG auto purchasing website? It is a good starting point for negotiating the purchase price and it links to truecar so you can get some data on what others paid.

As a random aside, my car is that black sapphire metallic and my wife's 3 series is alpine white. Her car is MUCH easier to maintain. white exterior/canyon brown interior would look sharp!

Good luck with the deal terms.

I think your 0.00185 is a little high with MSD, unless 0.00185 is before the MSD.

Is European Delivery an option for you? Don't know your timeline.

I wish it was, especially because of the proximity to Oktoberfest. I wouldn't be able to get enough time off this year for the trip I'd want to do, though. The ED threads I've seen (especially the 10k mile 335is thread) make it look like an amazing experience.

Before MSD makes more sense.
I'm sure you'll enjoy the car!

Don't forget to negotiate on the add ons such as wheel insurance, lease return allowance etc, if you decide to get them.

I'm definitely going to look into the tire and wheel insurance. I had plenty of fun dodging potholes with my 335i's RFTs. The sidewall bubbles, harsh ride, slightly worse handling, worse traction and poor tread life really soured my opinion of them. I'm also looking into a clear bra (3M VentureShield), a very light tint and (gasp) a set of mud flaps for winter driving. All the salt and cinders they have to put down here in the winter really beat the paint up. My 335i looked like it was hit with buckshot.

I think residual is too low. MF is kind of high. I was quoted .0009 for money factor two months ago. I think you can get it lower than that
