2011 Z4 35i premium sound: 10 speakers or 14?
There's conflicting info on the web about the premium sound. Some say it's 10 speakers, while others say 14.
http://www.thefreelibrary.com/Premiu...n.-a0143820463 http://reviews.cnet.com/convertible/...ml?tag=rvwBody Anyone know the truth here? It will play into my decision where to get the Z4. Thanks.... David |

Check the spec sheet on the configurator...it's in the options and requires the Exec package (in Canada)
They are probably lying and have less speakers because of the smaller cabin in the Zed....I believe I counted 11 in mine (some are double speakers in one location)

In the options it is listed as Logic 7 and if you check it off it requires the Executive Package. This is on the Canadian BMW site, the options and packages are different north and south of the 49th parallel. Also if you do a search for logic 7 on the net you get "http://www.bmw.com/com/en/insights/t...al_logic7.html"

Just got an email back from my sales guy. Dealership confirms it is NOT Logic 7 in the Z4. |

I'm sure what you're going to say next is that: a) sound isn't a reason to decide between cars b) The # of speakers doesn't matter I'll answer in advance. I have over 8,000 CD's and 7 ipods filled with music. Music is a big part of my life. I want my car to have the best sound possible. Is that so wrong? And the second part...surely a 14-speaker, 650 system will be more powerful (and likely better sounding) than a 10-speaker, 245 watt system. I am trying to find out because there are no Z4's with premium sound in my area to test drive. I'd have to drive about 300 miles to accomplish that. Sorry if I gave too much information, but trust that I answered your query. |

I think what you meant was the best sound possible offered by BMW in a Z4, correct? FWIW. Cheers

The stereo will make an impact on my choice. I'm not going aftermarket, cause it's a lease. |

Nope.
I can understand why someone might think more speakers would be better. I disagree, but I understand it. I can understand why choice of sound system might affect which car a person might buy. What I can't understand is how the number of speakers would affect WHERE a person might buy a given model of car. |

So you're really don't think that whether a system has 14 speakers, 650 watts or 10 speakers, 235 watts matters all that much, potentially? When you're talking about a car like BMW, I think it matters a great deal. Maybe if it's a Yugo, it's no big deal, as the quality likely won't be there either way....but I think BMW owners on this forum and others opt for the more powerful system every time. I just wanted to know whether we're talking 10 or 14 speakers....and the considerably more powerful system. Yeah, it matters. Last edited by 2011Z4; 01-25-2011 at 11:40 PM.. |

BTW - I have the premium sound and from my perspective (an old man with tinitus) it actually sounds quite good. I especially like it @ 80 mph with the top down. Anyway in years past, when music was imprinted on black disks, I owned a nice 300W Harmon Kardon amp/preamp w/JBL L65 which was a quite good home system for the day. IMO the premium sound is at least equal to that and the small cabin of the Z actually has good acoustics.
Irregardless of the quality of the sound system many times I turn it off and listen to the sweet sounds emanating from the TT exhaust system - which is still my most favorite music.

You will likely be disappointed in the BMW sound system. It is not one of the better ones offered in today's automobiles. Even the "premium" system in the Z4 is lacking. The Logic 7 in my 335i was much better. If a sound system is one of the most important facets of your car, you might well look elsewhere. The stereo in my R32 is better than the Z4. Good luck with your choice.

I am not sure the BMW premium sound will be able to compete, but I guess the big test will come this weekend. |
