Of course it is.

My wife loves it, and in all likelihood she can drive it faster than you.

Such a fun roadster, I sometimes wish I could trade my e93 for one if it wasnt for the loss of practicality. Thoughts?
They dont. They used to when it was the z3 and early z4's. They used to call it a hairdressers car. No more, its one of the most beautiful roadsters on the planet now.

I don't think the Z4 is a chick car at all, though I do find a pretty girl driving this car extremely sexy. Porsche Boxster the same. I do on the other hand think the Audi TT is a TOTAL chick car

I actually haven't heard the e89 referred to as a chick car yet. My old Z3 on the other hand... all the time.

But still, the majority of e89 owners are going to drive this to the mall, golf course, to the Whole Foods, and around town. The majority of Z4 owners aren't the ones on this forum... Now I don't think that makes it a "chick car" more so than any other 1/3/5 series or whatever - but the lack of an M model certainly doesn't help the image.

Nobody in my circle of friends called my e89 a "chick car", yet.
Everybody (men and women) said this is a beautiful car - and they are right of course!

Here in Germany the Porsche Boxter is called "housewife-Porsche", because the "real" Porsche is the 911.
The SLK is mostly driven by older women, so it has a bad reputation for men as well - that's the reason, why the old men buy SL's instead of SLK's...
The TT has not the image of a chick-car here (funnily enough), though this is a flattened VW Beatle in my opinion (especially the old version).

Cheers,
Phil

Phil, What about the SL500 or SL600 what are they calling that car in the old Vaterland?

BTW ... no one ever called my former e85 or e89 a chick car and if they did behind my back I did not care

+1

I brought a friend of mine out to the garage to show him the new Z4. He said, "When I was shopping for my car (2010 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 GT) I looked at Z4s. They didn't look like this."

They don't have special names as far as I know. But the target group for the Mercedes SL in general is - lets say - well advanced in years.

Thanks for the feedback

PS. Had our DD serviced yesterday (a C350), they had a slightly used (only 4,300 KM) SL500 in the show room for $92,000- CDN (~ 67,420- Euros) it sure looked sharp silver exterior and gray interior, fully loaded.

This is relatively expensive. I just had a short look for local prices - the SL 500 with <5k km starts here at 56k €.

Nice car, but I definately prefer the 300 SL (W198) with gullwing-doors!

If you are shopping in the $91k CDN range, why not a 991 ?

People call any 2 seater non-supercar a chic car. Nothing new.

Would love to agree, but no one would call a Lotus Elise a chick car. At under 50k, I wouldn't call it a supercar either.

I'm sure there is a mustang 5.0 / lifted diesel pickup that crushed an elise at a stop light who is calling it a chickcar

Lol, I guess. But more seriously the s2000 wasn't called a chick car, nor the Nissan z... Just a matter of styling. As much as I don't think the e85 or e89 are feminine in their look, they are more refined than the others listed which makes them appealing to women as well.

Some people bucket the S2k in with the miata (random japanese roadster 4cyl thing)

random thought, if you look at the Z4 zagato pics the roadster is driven by the woman and the man gets the fixed roof coupe. Seems like there is someone at HQ that agrees Z4 is a chickcar
