That is correct Wraith, it was my 2009 only it was a Z4 35i not a "is" (if I typed someplace "is" that was of course a typo ... mu bad ... I must have still had the "is" on my mind when I made my post to richard in NC, anyway I corrected it .... thanks for the heads up and your focused eyes. Prior to the 35i I did have a 30is ... so a typo along those lines comes easy).

I took her all the way to the west coast and had a great time. It was a long planned retirement trip that I wanted to do in a convertible. As the saying goes one has to do everything at least once well almost everything.

Here are a few pictures form the 2010 trip...

I retract my opinionated comment, "Silly to put street legal cars on a race track anyhow."
What was I thinking? Oh yeh, my Formula Ford 1600 days. Old FF drivers relish their past in purpose built single seat racecars with 100 hp Pinto engines, slicks and coilovers making better lap times than the fastest street cars. Just ignore old folks comments who still haven't learned not to drink and blog at the same time. No hard feelings I hope.

Yes Rolf I was following right along with you as you were checking in on that trip. If you remember I even suggested a route through the NW. Seems like an age ago for some reason...

Wrong again. F355 did not come with DCT. It was using an SMG-type gearbox (single clutch) made by Magneti Marelli. And by the way, the E36 M3 was available with an SMG since 1996 (though not in North America). So BMW and Ferrari started using SMG gearboxes at about the same time.

The first road cars to utilize DCT (dual clutch transmission) were 2003 Audi TT and VW Golf R32. The 2010 F458 Italia was the first Ferrari to use DCT.

Correct I do recall ... the trip had mainly happy moments with some minor shortfalls, they are now past and forgotten

Unfortunately that northern route suggested by you may have to wait till next year when I plan to take another round trip. I did manage to make my last vacation stop at Mount Rushmore that is as far north as I got then headed back south east toward Chicago and back home. As you recall my trip was cut short.
