Cool features/discoveries?

What's a cool feature or discovery that you hadn't known before you bought your E89 and were pleasantly surprised. I'm not talking about the engine, driving, handling, but those cool little "neat" things that you didn't expect or that you found after you already had the car. For example...

I hadn't realized that the car will rip CD's onto an internal hard drive.

I also hadn't expected that I could take out the skibag and replace it with an (included) small shelf system.

(Anyone want to start a separate "aggrevations" thread? )

That's because the ski-bag is an option and is in addition to the storage compartment which I believe is standard.

my ski bag was missing when I went to get the car & I was told by parts dept that "they don't make one, sorry". I had the sales dept almost fistfighting the parts dept about it. Hilarious .. "No ski bag = no sale" seemed to get their attention.....Got sorted eventually...."special order from Germany"

Right. I knew I was getting a ski-bag with the cold weather package (I really didn't care about the skibag part of that package). I just figured the passthrough would be something I didn't or rarely used, but I was pleasantly surprised to see the shelf thing.

And I didn't know the opposite: being able to take out the small shelf system to have a pass-through from the trunk to the cabin space

Also did not know that voice control was available with blue tooth (only works for phone actions not audio)

Hi, does this also work if you have idrive? Had a quick try saying "phonebook, call" etc and nothing happens. Am I missing something?
I read your post as, you don't have voice control as an option, but it works on phone control. Is this correct?

dwagner, most everything, I drove the 2008 Z4 3.0is for 10 months and let me tell you the quality between 2008 and 2009 is like night and day. The little things like door opening and closing, the trunk open tilt and push, the location of the iPot, the finish in general all those little things point to the fact that manny improvements have been made and that BMW always strives to build a better car. Not to forget that 2 ladies designed the interior and exterior of this master piece ~s~ Enjoy your car!

I have the 2010 with iDrive and cannot figure out how to call someone using voice command either. In my previous E90 I could say "call Joe" from any screen and it would work.

The manual says that "call name" should work but it doesn't. Has anyone figured this out?

The manual actually says, "dial name", not "call name". In any case, if you press the voice button on the steering wheel and say, "help", you'll be read a list of the proper voice commands.

I've tried that as well and it hasn't worked. I'll give it another try today and see if I've missed something. Thanks.

Just don't do it when you're at the traffic lights with your roof down

BMW screwed us with the voice dialing.

You have to store the phone numbers manually, it doesn't transfer the phonebook from your mobile. All other bmws do it just fine.

Surprisingly comfortable on long trips.
More cargo space than I expected.
30+ mpg on the highway.

The contacts are transferred automatically when the phone is paired, but saving names/numbers to be recognized by vice command has to be done manually.

I wish it had more 12v outlets though. There only seems to be a single one in the center console, which means you can't really plug in a radar detector or other things besides a cellphone charger.

Ah ok I miss understood. What I do is use the voice command from my Blackberry that way I don't have to manually transfer my contacts.
