side mirrors - curb function

Is it true that when you reverse w/ the L/R rear mirror set to the Left side, only the right mirror (i.e. passenger side mirror) angles down when you reverse? The service guy said that was the case and not both mirrors.

Yes. The driver mirror does not tilt down. They figured you can just pull down the window and stick your head out I guess.

That's odd. I would have preferred some symmetry. Oh well.

If you move your head you can see the curb on the drivers side because you are close to the mirror......it has nothing to do with symmetry (or lack of). It's also selectable because it's a pain if you have it set "on" when you don't want to look at the curb.

My Audi A6 had that feature in 1998 so it's nothing new...just nice to have.

That's my pt, I don't want to move my head to see the driver's side curb!

My manual (gasp!) says that to turn on the passenger mirror dipping you set the mirror adjust selector to the drivers side, if you dont want it to dip, then leave the selector on the passenger side.
What I have found though is it has "frozen" in the dipped position twice now ( in a week and a half of ownership)
Easy to adjust, but I will point it out back at the dealer when they fit the rest of my accessories next week.

I'm quite happy with the passenger mirror dipping only

Our Lexus IS350 dipped both sides and it was a pain in the ass. Passenger side only is far better.

The passenger side allows you to see the curb for parallel parking which is great and helps save the wheels. On the drivers side you can no longer see if there is approaching traffic. Also if you are backing out of a driveway and both mirrors dip you are now blind except for your interior mirror which is a very limited view.

Oic. That makes sense, although I always turn around in conjunction w/ using the mirrors.
