Smile Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) Facts

For those of you that may not be aware of it, here's a site I stumbled upon some time ago while researching the DCT for the Z4. It represents the DCT manufactures and continues to provide interesting info about these transmissions in the automotive industry.

http://www.dctfacts.com/in-the-marke...svid=138795154

Enjoy

Not quite sure how to take your comment -if you're just making light hearted fun or if you're actually insulting the post I made.

Regardless, if you're comment is to be taken seriously, please share your wisdom Oh Great One of your idea of an exciting thread?

Have you found any lately to share?

It's true people do tend to ask the same questions, but that's mostly from new members.

I've been to various forums and the ability to search and find archived info varies. I think most people don't bother and create new threads. We could discourage that but would be less user friendly.

This link points to an article describing the 8 speed ZF Automatic. That is not the DCT.
Here is a better link from the same site decribing the DCT in the 3.5is:http://www.dctfacts.com/in-the-marke...Z4-sDrive.aspx

You're correct Richard, thanks for the correction. I should have picked up on that if I had read the first line of the article. I made the incorrect assumption that it was DCT related because it came from that site.

That is a excellent web site. Yum! I enjoyed it for a few minutes and will definitely go back there. The wine is a good suggestion. I need to relax more often.

Thanks again Rolf-Dieter for your concerns and suggestions. They are well taken!

I thought the article was good. The author seems to have taken exception to the paddle layout on the Z4. While I initially had the same feeling, after taking my Z4 to the track, I found the paddle layout works great. The only thing I don't like is how much force it takes to press for downshift. It should be a quick click and not a hard press. It feels cheesy and not very well thought out.

Ferrari paddles (which are fixed to the column) have a really nice positive click to them.

The DCT isn't perfect but it's the best I've driven and I've owned quite a few sports cars.
