The only thing that bugs me about the z4 are those windshield washer spray nobs on the hood. That's so 1980!

The Z4 looks much cleaner, the SLK much too fussy, especially at front.

The Z4's steering wheel is pig ugly though.

The Z4 looks better design wise compared to the SLK. Where the SLK lost it is in the side view their are no curves or muscular wheel arches. Also the rear of the Z4 looks better.

The SLK steering wheel looks better then the Z4.

Every person comparing the SLK to the SLS is certifiably blind. But you know I bet MB is loving the comparison. You're doing them favors by making ridiculous comparisons to their halo car. In case you all forgot what that thing looks like:

I'm a longtime fan of the SLS and its predecessor the gull-wing door 300SL, but apart from that, IMO MB is out of ideas. I find all their lines boring and lacking any real innovation. Of course, like BMW, they stress all the gadgetry but that doesn't make a marque stand out from the crowd.

And when it comes to the Z4 vs the SLK, it's almost as if MB made an effort to copy Z4's features, but they did the entire package in a very boring way. Frankly, I feel the SLK is nothing more than a blob with an outlandish grill that mimics the SLS.

The Z4 has a style and panache that the SLK can't match. The entire series, Z3, Z8, Z4 (e85/86), and the latest Z4 have all been tributes to the front engine, long priapic hood, rear engine roadster designs of years past. The SLK on the other hand is poorly realized amalgam that at best is very unfortunate.

The overwhelming MB grill is what makes those 2 Merc cars similar. They're too stale for my tastes anyways, although I can see how some ppl may like them if they like 'classic' designs. Just not my cup of tea. A bodykit would make the SLS nicer though.

I agree that the Merc's steering wheel is nicer though and some parts of the interior.

it seems to me like the slk designers were very 'inspired' by the z4 design. there's almost too much similarity...

Mmmm....

Yet another ham-fisted design from Mercedes. The front really does look like something from a truck welded onto the old model. The 'new' square look at the front for the Mercs will age very badly - and in fact I am surprised it gets past new safety regulations for pedestrian leg impact damage. Looks quite good from the side especially with the roof up - notice how narrow the roof is compared to the Z4.

It will sell very well to loads of Chanel hand bagged girls in Europe and will be especially popular in Bond Street London and Kensington but hard core drivers and more macho men will still buy Porsche.

The BMW is kind of in the middle - a car for someone who doesn't want to buy a Porsche and likes a car with style. I would consider buying one but only if they make active suspension an option.

Listen chaps - this new SLK will be noticeably slower to 60mph/100km/h than even the 35i let alone the 35is. Only the AMG will be a sub 5 sec rival.

Have not driven the new MB. By look, Z4 looks nice. New SLK looks like any other MB with Z4 butt slaps on it. Almost as if MB spent no money on the exterior design and at the end realize that they can't use the old SLK exterior while calling it a "new" model so they flipped through BMW's catalog and found their answer. (I am very bias )

Prefer Z4 a lot more. MB tries to copy, but fails... not elegant at all.

Dunno how accurate it is since they are displaying a pic of the current model but:
