Supercharged E46 330ci ZHP Driven on The Smoking Tire

This E46 BMW 330ci ZHP coupe is a clean example of a somewhat underappreciated car. The ZHP package for the E46 3-Series featured 10 extra horsepower, M3-inspired suspension, a subtle body kit, unique wheels, and came in manual transmission only. This one has been modified with the help of a Vortech Centrifugal Supercharger system from ESS Tuning.

Nice to see the ZHP get some news, still one of the best BMWs you can own, even in the midst of all these Fxx cars... Owned two of them, miss them at times, even while owning an E90 M3. Correction to original post though, the ZHP could be had with the 6 speed manual or the 5 speed automatic. Body styles available were sedan, coupe, and vert.

My Dinan3 ZHP shown below...

I'll say I enjoyed my ZHP...but I LOVE my e90m3....lol.

Maybe the ZHP would have been more with 6mt as I had the step trans.

Still a classic and well connected car...

I don't disagree... My E90 is much more fun, but for the price of admission the ZHP is hard to beat...

I had the factory short shift MT. It was fun to drive with the shorter rear differential but 6th gear seemed to lug the engine.

The Zhp sedan was up there as one of the all time best bmw sedans. Boat loads of fun, driver engagement and a jack of all trades.

Man I miss my 330i ZHP. I had a 4 door, and it wasn't supercharged.. but seeing this brought back a lot of great memories. I enjoyed my ZHP more than I did my 335is truth be told.

Very underrated car.
Cars like the 330i ZHP, 135is, 335is, E39 540i, etc. out of the box delivered exceptional driving pleasure & performance while doubling as good daily-drivers.

It's just funny to think that if a car like this were to be released today, its name would be bastardized, something along the lines of M445i M Performance Edition and be equipped with 30 M badges.

These were the days when BMW knew they made a good product and didn't have to justify it through ostentatious, and, to the general public, confusing, nomenclature.

I had a bone stock 325i automatic that I converted to a ZHP and 6 speed over the course of my 10 year ownership (minus the 3.0l motor). I thoroughly enjoyed the car for those 10 years before picking up my current E90 M3 two months ago. Oddly enough, I jumped in my old E46 this weekend to see what it was like and was extremely underwhelmed, largely due to the lack of power.

But I agree with the above statements, it made a perfect DD. I even considered an s54 swap, but small specs of rust had started developing this year.

I ended up swapping my BBS LM Reps to the OEM 135m wheels later on after realzing nothing beats the OEM look .

Just sold my 05 ZHP coupe with the 6spd for my e92 m3. Jury is still out if I will miss it. In one I'm sure I will. Car was definitely quick and well planted.

I agree.. nice to see some ZHP love..

I've owned an E46 325 vert and anE46 M3 by marriage and another E46 vert I purchased. An E46 ZHP Sedan is always on my list of bimmer bargain daily drivers I could own someday.

I had a 2004 330i ZHP - loved it as it was a great car and wonderful daily driver for my family.

Always loved the Zhp. Way back in 09 when I bought my e90 330i I was on the fence about th Zhp ( it was a silver sedan with cloth , drool) but the e90 was proving itself as a slightly easier car to maintain, and the e90 stock felt like it had a good bit more poke, when in reality it was probably damn close in power to weight.

My e90 has a ton of miles on it now, if I tripped over a decent Zhp with under 100k for a steal I'd pull the trigger

I'm still driving my E46 330i ZHP 6MT, maybe my fav bimmer. More fun than my DCT E90 M3 was by a mile. I have a F87 M2 in the garage I bought to dd and still prefer to daily drive the ZHP.

Why? What makes it a better DD?

Probably the fuel economy, the size and the fact that you didn't feel like you were wasting a "special" car like the M3 in traffic duties.

A nice video on a nicely modified E46. I owned an ‘01 325 CIc for nearly seven years and it was a fun car. When it came time to replace it, clean ZHP coupes were hard to find. I found a clean, one owner E92 MT Coupe and love driving it but the styling of the ZHP is special.

I have a 2003 330i ZHP with an LS3 swap and I think it's the most enjoyable car I've ever driven.
