Brilliant - I love the large folding sat nav screen.

See, why couldn't they have done a similar wide-screen pop-up monitor for the 2009+ 1er's? I loved the pop-up 2008 1st gen iDrive pop-up screen for the 1er. The wide screen 2009+ looks like an afterthought...

The padded dash (look at the photo with the pop-up nav) looks really nice!

So will the Idrive system only be offered as an option if one buys the Nav system? So will it be like the 3 series is, no nav then no idrive? Or will it drive be standard like the 5 series, but optional nav system?

You can see for sure in the 4th picture that the reflecter on the side mirrors (left mirror) is temporary tape.

I doubt anyone on this board would be able to answer that. We'll have to wait for a press release...

Here is my guess...

Since all the "new" BMW's have been released, I've yet to see a navigation system that did NOT have iDrive (Current Z4 and X3 actually use the OLD MKIV navigation systems like the one I have in my e46 ZHP and current Z4 and X3 models are usually referred to as still being the "old" BMW platform). With all of that said, I would guess that if you choose the navigation option (if its an option and not standard equpment) then you'll have iDrive. Just like all the other "New" BMW models. Again, not "New" as in current year model "New," "New" as in not the old platforms...

I'm sure that is confusing, but it'll make sense if you read it a few times...

So what you are saying is if nav sys is an option then...
No nav = no idrive?

Those may be the ugliest wheels I've seen since the Yugo.

Has to be the no-turbo engine, not N-54 (from tailpipe configuration).

Would guess no-nav = no-iDrive (cost).

How do you find the "aluminium" part of the steering wheel ?

I think it seems more brillant and cheap compared to the e85...

what do you think ?

Right, how would you use iDrive without navigation?

Wait...

I think I was reading the post wrong...

My boss's daughter has an e60 that has a screen in it (as all 5 series do I guess) and though she does not have navigation, she has iDrive for all of the other functions...

Is that what your asking?

If so, then I would guess if the screen is not standard equipment, no iDrive. If the screen is standard equipment with the navigation part being optional, then I would think there would be iDrive...

I hope that makes sense, sorry for the confusion...

That's the question: will the screen be standard equipment ?

It might be since i believe all of the interior spy shots have it.
Why would you have an extra like that on a test vehicle if it's not standard?

What's funny is that these photos are almost 1 month old. They are taken at the same time as the ones in the post on 10/15. Wonder why these took longer to come out.

I don't think anyone will be able to answer that until BMW puts out a press release on the car...

I don't see why it would be standard equipment, but you never know...

If they want to move it upmarket they might want to have it as standard. It will also justify a higher price.

If the large folding screen was standard, then surely Sat Nav would be standard also, and I really can't see that.
