DCT Shifter Retrofit Kit

http://www.motivemods.com/BMWRetrofi...mm-sst-d10.htm

Quote:
This German engineered kit is completely Plug-N-Play and will replace the OEM steptronic shifter with an illuminated BMW DCT shifter. Time and effort was taken to develop a circuit board, which allows for OEM like functionality and permits the shifter to turn off when the vehicle goes to sleep. This is a very important feature, as it prevents the vehicle from having high battery drain issues, which can lead to costly replacement of the battery.

Options Explained:
Traffic Direction - Which side is your steering wheel located on when sitting inside the vehicle?
Trim - "DCT Baseplate" allows for replacement of your baseplate with a DCT baseplate.
Trim - "Manual Boot" allows for replacement of your baseplate with a manual shifter boot.
Vehicle Build Date - Enter the date that your vehicle was manufactured in the format MM/YY.
Anyone considering this? I'm thinking if this is a total retrofit, will the shifter's height be the same as the real ones? Judging from this picture, it's a little higher compared to the real DCTs.

The shifter on real DCTs have the leather like sucking the bottom part. I was wondering if it still could be modified. Would anyone consider this? This is different from the fake shifters that don't illuminate.

I emailed MotiveMods support, the guy that responded said that it will absolutely look stock. Just have to trim the stalk to achieve the perfect height. Anyone mind checking the height of theirs? I don't know any E89 owners here with the new shifter.

Interesting. I did not realize there were any automatic Z4s. I thought they were all either DCTs or 6MTs.

This has nothing to do with model year.

All e89 are available as an auto (non DCT) in 18i,20i,23i,30i variants.

Or Manual in all variants other than 35iS

DCT is optional on 35i, standard on 35iS.

None of the above has ever changed.

Didn't know that. There is only one 35is here and it was from a grey market dealer. Also MotiveMods said that it won't change anything, tranny will still be the same. This mod is more on looks but at least it is made to look OEM!
