Battery change size difference, battery registration, smell from hood
Hi,
My battery was getting weak and some of the lights inside the car were getting wonky. A faint electrical/rubber smell was filling the cabin. I open the hood, no obvious smell; no smoke. I changed my battery nevertheless. I got several questions. 1. The new battery is slightly longer than the old one. Now I have a battery insulation sleeve sitting around. What should I do with it? Should I wrap what I can around the larger one? 2. If I can't smell or see the faint electrical/rubber smell from under the hood, where else can I look? I've looked around the battery housing and everything looks good.

You need to take the electrical smell seriously I think.
First, assume it was coming from the cabin then next would be the front vent/engine bay into the cabin. I would start with smelling up under the dash area and seats, if nothing then open up the ecu box and check in there. Finally, remove side panels in the rear cargo area and check in there for water |
