Voice Commands ?????

Does the Voice Command system work on a car without Nav? I have been trying to get it to function without success on my MY 2010 that has premium radio, but NO Nav. Before I make the long trek to my Dealer, can anyone enlighten me. The Owners manual is somewhat confusing in this area.

I don't think voice control comes without iDrive. When you press the button on the steering wheel, do you hear a 'ding' shortly after? It also mutes anything playing. The ding means 'speak now'.. No ding=no voice control (tho all steering wheels have the button).

I don't think it will work w/o navi.

you loose everything except telephone commands and you actually have to program each name you'd like to be able to use.

so for example, you have to record "susy" and then you can press the button and say, "telephone" and the car will say "please say the name" and you say "susy" and then it connects you.

with idrive, you can do navigation, climate control, settings, radio, cd track and get to any menu in idrive.
