Noise detected during down shift

Second post of the day.
After entering my car for the second time at the local dealer for this anoying thumping noise and a mysterious sound comming from the rear under of the car they analysed it being the differential as the cause.
This dealer told me that they need the authorisation from the BMW import expert in order to change the differential, as if I could continue to drive this car that way.

I'l keep you guys posted of any further development

I was driving today and the gearbox was racing, thumping and making all sorts of odd noises.

I was going to get it checked out, but then I remembered that I'm driving a rental Toyota. Those noises are normal.
