In my opinion......don't do it. It looks really cheap and doesn't add anything to the car, especially as the calipers aren't supposed to be painted.
It's the sort of thing young lads do to their clapped out 1.2 peugeot 206's along with fitting neons and pointless oversized exhausts. |

I think so too, if you just got the car, wait until you hear all the comments you get on it. I get comments almost every day in traffic, and also people just staring at the car. Red does nothing other than look racy and the car is definately not racy looking its classy looking.

As I told you in out PM exchange, I would paint them. Not sure which color, but I honestly think that some paint actually enhances the lines of the car.

I asked the same opinion in another thread, then reached the conclusion that the Z4 calipers aren't suited for painting; too small and complicated.

Yup the humble 135i up front gets the grey brembo 6 pistons with ' B M W' written on them in big white letters. And they are gooood!
The rear also have BMW written on them in the white. Looks excellent. |

Bottom line, Mr. Breeze. It's your fuc#$&g car, and you should do what you want. If someone else makes your payments, let them decide.

Based on this very unscientific survey, it would seem some like the idea, but most are opposed. It is interesting that when searching this and various other forums, opinions run the gambit. The enthusiasm for painted calipers (and faux covers) is significantly greater depending on the model of BMW, and particular non-BMW models. Seems to be with the Z4 crowd, that only if actual performance brakes are installed, then its ok to have colored calipers. Then, apparently it doesn't detract from the looks of the car. Ask a dozen people, and get 13 opinions. I haven't yet decided. I might paint them black. I might paint them silver. I might paint them red. I may leave them as is. I might save up for Brembo's. I know it's my decision - and I do appreciate the comments and opinions. ...of course my girlfriend likes the idea of painting them red, so that might be what tips the scales. lol |

Why would BMW do that? If they didn't offer it on any vehicle it would be one thing, but to offer it on the 135i and not on the Z4 makes no sense to me.

Only the 135i gets it as far as I know. The 135i was/is intended as an accessible introduction to performance motoring BMW-style. I am not sure why the 135i gets the same N54 engine as the Z4 35i and 'better' brakes plus a bunch of M equipment standard (suspension, fat steering wheel, wheels, gear knob, side sills etc) and is way less money.
The M1 will be coming out soon and that will be priced around a Z4 35is (or even less) I predict. For me also the Z4 is the best convertible BMW out there at the moment, mainly due to its looks. This is OT, but for the money I would have liked handling on par with a Porsche. Wishful thinking? |

This has bothered me for a long time w/ their whacked way of pricing vs how various models are equipped. Not good.
