performance up-grades

my 1st post, picked up 2011 3.0 gray, black interior, great car so for, but there seems to be lacking performance mods for this model, there are tons of up-grades for the turbo model, but nothing for 3.0, called dinan, zip, there is no power programmers, about the only item is air filter, for a model thats in its 3rd year, i am surprised.

You could have a look at these folks.....they seem to be offering something for the N52 engine. Not much gain in the hp or torque though, for the money at least.

I've never understood why anyone buys the small engine then either complains about performance or immediately wants to do expensive "performance upgrades".

Well I bought my 30i but there was no 35i in the same color options that I desired. So since I am impatient; I bought the 30i. Couldn't wait for my build spec! I'm looking for some performance atm as well. That's my story at least :/

As mentioned by another member, ESS tuning offers a handheld tuner. Power gains are very minimal.

ESS claims a gain of +13HP, 17ft/lbs. You can also do a exhaust, but then again very minimal power gains.

I never understand why you assume we can all afford the turbo model, I have dozens of cars over 35 years, and up-grades were plenty full, and in most cases cheap, there is nothing in my message that's says I am complaining, merely asking a reputable web site if there are any choices, and thanks to some HELPFULL users there is.

wish I could have, but the company is paying, and would not pay the extra, don't get me wrong the car is great, fantastic engine, but if I can increase a little more great, if not it's still will be a great car, though 0-60 in 6 seconds is nothing with today's cars, but that extra half second more, would be better. I don't think what I ask is unusual, I have dozens of cars, all have had a little work done, there are always improvements, I just found it strange there was everything for the turbo, but the 3.0 flat six. thanks for the reply.

Your best gains, I think would be with the aFe (new) cold air intake system at about $500 and a cat back exhaust by Eisenmann (roughly $2,500). Using them in combination, you would probably pick up quite a bit of hp without doing anything complicated other than spending $$$ + that NA I6 would sound awesome with those items. BTW, I love the 30i and probably would have bought that with a MT and the M Sport package if I had the benefit of hind sight. Don't get me wrong, I have one of the fastest N54s around and it is wicked, but we plan on keeping this instant classic as our 3rd car forever, and I worry about longevity/service, etc. based on my experience thus far.

I've been looking for a new cold air intake, but unfortunately, aFe doesn't make one for the E89. Anyone install a different brand with success?

I make no such assumption and you have no reason to believe I do.

It's more that it's very easy to know exactly what you're getting into before you buy a car. You can test drive it, read reviews, etc. You should know before you buy whether you're likely to be pleased or disappointed with the power. If you know you're going to be disappointed, why buy it?

Similarly, it's every bit as easy to research "upgrade" options before you buy a car as it is afterward. There is no reason to find yourself surprised after the fact.

as i said i am not dissaponted, i am only doing what you turbo guys are, so if you are not impressed with the turbo, why is every one boosting to make it go faster?, in your words, why not just by a porsche 911.

My only point was the lack of up-grades thats all, every person i would think would look at ways to make it any car better.

I, as a "turbo guy", am driving my car and enjoying it rather than sinking time and money into "performance upgrades" that do nothing to increase my driving enjoyment.

Is "every one" actually "boosting"? I have seen very little evidence of this. Who's "not impressed"? I certainly am impressed.

Why not a Porsche? I hate 'em. Why not an Aston? The nearest dealer is in the middle of the next state. Same goes for Ferrari and Lamborghini. Besides, the roads around here would kill those Italian cars. I grew up driving Benzes but they never did much for me. BMW has only 2 dealers in my state, the nearest of which is about 30 miles from me, but my last Z4 didn't spend much time in the shop. My Z4 is my only car. Given my work, I need reliable, no-excuses transportation. I'm also a long-time "BMW guy", so the choice seems obvious to me.

My car has no need for "up-grades." It's fine as it is. BMW pays good money to really smart engineers who, in my opinion, are better than almost anyone at making the cars the way they should be. Messing with that is not at all certain to make things better.

I no longer compete on the track. My car has more than enough power to kill me quickly and more than enough handling to keep me alive unless I'm an idiot.
