Coding upon delivery
Good morning !!!
My Z4 should arrive in LA this week. I have been making notes on several items I want to remember to cover with my dealer on delivery day. I read a couple of threads regarding coding of the vehicle. Some folks have had this done after delivery by a non BMW service. I am interested in knowing if BMW will code my car as I want it in regard to eliminating the NAV warning screen, code NAV so my wife can enter an address while we are underway, code to allow the outside mirrors to fold in, etc. Has anyone had this typr of coding done upon delivery by the dealer? |

I'm not sure if an authorized dealer would do that, it's a safety feature and removing any of those would make the vehicle less legal and less safe and that would be a liability if something happens that can be traced to the dealer decoding the car. I could be wrong but in the US where everyone can sue anyone for anything, I am not sure a dealership would take that chance. I read that if you change the coding and bring the car for service, BMW pretty much resets it anyways.

rfx45 That's just as I thought. I'll ask when I take delivery but I think you are correct. I would not let someone other than BMW do any programming, mods, or updates to the software.
Alter Peter Thanks for the info. What we do is when we renat a car in Phoenix or Maui, I take my Garmin and we place it over in the top right of the windshield. The wife can then enter addresses as we go. She watches the screen and I listen to the directions. Our Lexus and Cadillac won't let us enter as we drive either. Same reasons. |

Colorado,
I know you don't want to make any code mods, but if you change your mind, I had all these items you've noted and a couple more, via Andreas at prochip.de Cost was a few hundred dollars. Unfortunately, the dealer either can't or won't (probably can't actually), make these changes. Dave

I really doubt the dealer would do it.
The nav can be programmed while in motion from factory.

The coding is cake, but I doubt the dealer will code out any of the warning info. In coding most of what you are asking, it's just asking the computer to either turn on or turn off the selected feature. If you can't find a local E90 member, there are several folks who will do remote coding. Hop over to the coding section and search remote coding. Plus many BMW aurthorized service shops do coding. I didn't realize you can't enter addresses in Nav while driving. I'm sure I've done that in my 2012.

I did not know you could enter an address for examplle in the NAV while driving. Our Lexus and CTS Cadillac won't let us do that. I'll play with it when I get the car and I am sure whatever it does or allows will be fine.

Hi Jparnes.....no English site that I'm aware of. All I did was use Google Translate and was able to get the gist of it.
