Makes no difference what the car cost, pos or not, it's someone else's property.

So where does it stop, what's sacred that I spent money on, nothing? Everything is just material, can't take it to the grave but it's all relevant to the person that sacrificed something to get it. Just because you didn't or your car comes easy to you doesn't make it the same for everyone.

Many feel the same of their Honda Accord that I felt for my Evo or my M3 now. It's my property, period. And since I paid my hard earned money I get to feel how I want about it......at the other end of the spectrum, they are your kids right, and you get to raise them with your values and no one can tell you otherwise, unless your are doing something abusive to them.

Lups, you gave permission for the mechanic to press your car, not the same as someone doing it against your wishes. If you were at a meet and I said "nice car girl, can I sit in it" you answer yes, and as you turn to speak to other enthusiasts I drive off and come back ten minutes later ending in a burnout......would that be ok......not to me, done without permission, I'd try and take your head off. But if Chris Harris needed my car for a video and asked, I'd throw him the keys and say bring her back with a full tank and new tires, have fun.

This is common sense, and there are laws and legal ramifications against using property without consent, that's the issue. Not "it's just a car". Consent and other people's property. You rich folks that lease or trade every two years always have this nonchalant attitude to the elicit use of property.....but I'm sure there's something in your life you value....thats how most of the general population feel about all their belongings. When I was in the military we'd be rolling around on the floor fighting if caught messing with someone's laundry.

Agreed, when you go in for service you don't expect a tech to take your car to run errands. Like the guy said you really don't know what else he did with it.

I just spent time with my mechanic and talked to the bloke. We agree on cars, so I don't see him mistreating mine ever.

My sister-in-law decided to move in with us for the whole summer. Nobody bothered to tell me this beforehand. I spend most of my time coming up with painful ways to kill her. I haven't flipped completely yet, so I'm sure I'm in the end pretty damn mellow.

If I caught my mechanic rolling in my car to lets say a park to walk his dogs I would probably I would ask him if his other customers would see it fit, but I wouldn't take away his livelihood over it. He'd know I could, that is enough for me.

Now, if you excuse me, I have to go back to googling how much 10 000 mouse traps would cost me if my chosen method would be throwing her to a bathtub filled with those.

it's very sad after the dealership fired the guys, compensated 3k worth of work, the guy still isn't satisfied. Like he wants a new car or something.

I think 3k worth of repair was generous from a dealership.

Around 1998, the dealership damaged my door, and I had to settle for new door+rental car. It was a dealership I use to work for.

YOU'RE embarssed for owning a Z in the past? Think about how I feel having owned an Evo 8 ten years ago. Have you seen the abominations these kids are doing to our cars?

the dude is an asshole and expects way too much for someone using his car to get lunch. Maybe he thinks he has a reason to be pissed. I personally think he made out pretty well since that car is probably worth $4500 and he got $3000. It would be like me going to his Taco Bell and getting all the way home and realizing they forgot my double decker taco. Would they owe me $500 for that? Hell no, nor would I expect it because I am a reasonable person. Shit happens. Furthermore most shops I deal with have a little fine print on the bottom of their work orders. It gives the shop permission to road test the vehicle. Obviously this shop in particular didn't.

I find this post offensive!

Do you really think I'd spend a month and a half crying over her pissing me off, if I could market her as a hottie and send her off to the first desperate guy here?! Seriously?

When she came here on a Wednesday (6.15 pm) I spend four hours fixing her voice with whiskey. I got half way to a bottle, when she fell asleep in the middle of her own sentence.

The next day I tried to teach her how to drive.

According to her license (a Finnish one) she is allowed to drive anything from a buss to a truck (lorry). In 40 minutes she had two of my Audis rims curbed ("no one can spot those, I'm sure" wtf???!) and I left to California, since I could not take it anymore.

Those were our two first days. When I came back, she said her brother, the fucker I married, had told her to ask me if she could take my car for her road trip.

I never go see the hubby at work, but after hearing that I told him to haul his ass to a near by park and ten minutes later I spent 20 minutes trying to get a few kicks or hits in. (back home we used to go to our lawn and practice self defense every night until I busted my ankle.). This was the only time I could get a few shots in.

She left last Sunday for her road trip. She left me no contact info on her traveling partner, and she hasn't texted me anything since. I am truly hoping he was some murderer.

I miss this post. You can write a book about her, and it will be best selling. How you describe it is very colorful.

I bet it would make bimmerposts top 100 summer read's list. Sadly we have underage readers here, so some asshole would sue me for the language used.

He may have over reacted but it's within his rights to react on some level.
It's normal for techs to test drive a car to both confirm an issue or to confirm that an issue has been resolved. Happens all the time, it's like this is the first time people came to this realization.

Driving a couple miles away from the dealership and grabbing some lunch to go while you do it is 100% reasonable to me, it makes the most of their time and increases their productivity so I don't blame them, their livelihoods are based on how many labor hours you can bill. Worst case scenario? They ate in the car. In which case I'd just ask for a full cleaning (which is typically what they do anyway). Get stains in the car? Full detail. Certainly not worth anyone losing their jobs and ability to provide for themselves over.

Like I said, if they were caught driving like idiots and/or driving to a place very far away, then yes a reaction is justified. That wasn't the case so yes he absolutely overreacted. No one in their right mind outside of that moronic owner would actually WANT to drive that thing.

Anyone who reacts the way the guy in the video did is just an ass, period. Given what we know from that news video, the techs did NOTHING illegal and not only that, they acted completely within their roles and responsibilities. When you drop off your car you give consent to the technician to inspect the car, which includes driving it. There's a Taco Bell on the route you drive to test the car? Nothing illegal about stopping there.

When I dropped off my car for service for a drivetrain malfunction I noticed they put about 15 miles on the car and were unable to identify the cause. I didn't care, are you saying I should've if they got McDonalds drive through on the way back for lunch and called for the individual(s) to be fired (which they very well could have)? How is that anything other than absurd?

Oh I bet it most definitely did, the dealership just had their hands tied due to the negative PR, no matter how unreasonable the backlash may have been.

I just saw the clip (ignored it earlier). That dude needs a set of balls and a better taste in cars. What an ass.

Go for minor inconveniences and just wallow in her frustration. A few ideas,

-Place small pebbles in her shoes, but only the ones that require some effort to put on and off.
-Ensure her pillow covers are always warm, never cold.
-If she uses your computer, make Internet Explorer your default browser.
-If she uses her own bathroom, put single ply toilet paper in there.
-You have a dog right? Buy a dog whistle, that way if you ever wake up before her or she goes to bed before everyone, simply blow it and she'll haven't the slightest idea why your dog is going nuts.
-She use iPhone headphones? Tangle them when no one is looking.

No reason you can't enjoy having the in laws over.
