Exclamation E89 Z4 M-sport package caught in testing

As featured on ZPOST homepage

We bring you the first photos of the E89 Z4 testing at the ring while wearing a camoflaged Msport body / aero kit!

This is possibly the Z4 3.5iM, which will have slightly more power than the standard 3.5i

Any word on how much? Should be easy to get another 50HP out of it.
Improved handling and more power would make this pretty hard for me to pass up.

Are you sure this is an M-sport package... could very well be the "Performance" bodykit, looks a lot like the ones available for the 3 and 1 series.

And about the wheels? I'm prety sure that these are the type 276 wheels that are already available in the accessory catalogue, they come in 16 inch as well as in 19 inch...

Could be wrong though.

I think those bumpers are really ugly. Why not just make it all one color?

Then what engine.......I'm pretty sure BMW only makes 6 engines(at least that are available in the states); the inline 6 (NA and TT), the V8 (4.4 and 4.8), the V10 and the diesel

I imagine no new engines will be available in this chassis. They could include a tune with the M-Sport pack on the 35i perhaps. There will be no e89 Z4M.

You're forgetting the S65 and that there are 2 different 3.0L NA sixes in the US market. BMW makes many more great engines available in World markets. There are at least 5 different diesels available elsewhere (18d, 20d, 23d, 30d & 35d). We only get the gas guzzlers here. The 23d engine would be fantastic in the e89 Z4 along with an M-sport pack. I want a manual diesel BMW!!!

it should be Msport but natural question is then why there are no fog lights in the bumper?

Few problems with this. 1, the diesel engine sound in convertible car is just against some kind of natural order I guess. Trust me. In coupe or sedan its fine but drop the top and hear only whistle of turbo and purrrrr is not nice. 2. manuals dont usually go well with big diesels, they cant handle the torque. So you will only have big diesel with auto box.

As BMW CEO said no ///M version of the Z4 are planned at the moment...

Sadly, BMW has confirmed that it has canceled the Z4 M.
The automaker said the economic downturn and a lack of customer interest in the model ruled out going forward with an M version of the Z4.
But it seems odd to cite the crisis hitting automotive sales as a reason for killing the model when the company is also going forward with the X5 M and the X6 M and a whole host of new products that are large, expensive and not very economical on fuel costs.
So maybe the second reason cited was a larger factor than they are letting on, the lack of customer demand. Hard to imagine that of all the new upcoming BMW models, including the 5-series GT, that the Z4 would be the one where customer interest in an M version hasn't been piqued enough.
A BMW spokesperson was quoted by iMotor.co.uk as saying,"Given the current economic crisis there is no business case for a full-on M version of the Z4." The spokesperson also admitted that the X5 M and X6 M were given the go-ahead before the collapse in sales which, in many cases, have hit premium brands just as hard as the volume automakers.
The consolation prize will be an M Sport package for the Z4, like the one for the 135i. That would include a few M-badges tucked here and there but mainly on the steering wheel, a more tightly tuned suspension, a body kit and bigger alloy wheels. Couple all that with the BMW's 3.0 liter, twin-turbo with 306 hp and it should pack enough of a punch. What else do you want?

I would be very happy just to be able to buy the Power Kit, Performance Exhaust, and Performance Brakes for my wife's 35i Z4. Sign me up now - I am waiting for Performance Products for the Z4 BMW!!! I love all things Munich but you drive me crazy sometimes.
