I have viewed an e-mail on the iDrive display screen once, so I know it works. It's not something I would do often, however. SMS, I can't say one way or the other as I've never tried. When you get a new message (e-mail for sure, not sure about SMS), you get a message waiting indicator on the iDrive, and that's the feature I use the most. I check messages on the phone itself once I have pulled over.

I will say that getting the Z10 fully paired with the Z4 was probably the most painful time I've had pairing any phone with any car. Not sure why.

Hey, now. I started off with a Blackberry and when everyone said it was uncool, after many contract cycles I went through 2 Androids and an iPhone, and now back to the BB. Upgrade coming up in a month, guess what I'm getting..

Anyway, off topic.

Putzo - How did you get your iDrive to display SMS and e-mails? I have it set as "receive SMS" or something on the iDrive, but whenever I get a text, it doesn't show up as having a message. Is there something I need to set on my phone? When I pair my phone with my Mercedes, it works without having to do anything else on my part.

The new message indicator just worked automatically for me. It shows up as a VERY small envelope icon in the entertainment status window. There is also a bit of a delay for it showing up after a message is received. Less than a minute, however. As for actually reading an e-mail, I had to wade into the "Office" bits of the iDrive. As I said, only did it once, and never with a text.

Good luck!

Thanks everybody for replying to my post. I picked up a Verizon Wireless Blackberry Z10 (White) and gave it a try. Z4 didn't appear in Bluetooth devices on Z10. After a frustrating 10 minutes, I renamed Z10's Bluetooth name to Z10 and instantly Z4 appeared in the Bluetooth devices list. It is easy from there. Text Messages, Emails and BMW Service/Info messages started to show up on the iDrive display. Number of actual text messages, emails and BMW Service/Info messages appeared correctly as shown in the picture.

In my experience:
1. Blackberry worked perfect ! Displays old and new Texts and Emails.
2. iPhone - displays Text and Emails as Text messages. Only new ones.
3. Samsung Galaxy S3 - displays Text only.

On a slightly tangential note, my idrive consistently reverts to showing only the service messages instead of all messages so that I can see my personal texts. Anyone else have this happen or know how to fix it?
