Probably A Silly Question About When I Wash The Car.

ok, where I live, right now,, lots of sand and gravel on the streets, so im always taking it to the car wash to clean off the grit. I only go to the ones with the wands that dont touch the car. So here is the question. It doesnt matter whether I lock the car or not, but as im moving around the car, the side marker lights flash, and then flash some more, and sometimes im setting off the alarm. How or what do I do with the key to prevent it from setting off the side markers, and eventually the alarm? Do I just leave the key in the car or what?

you have comfort access dont you...the heat (or maybe the pressure) hitting the contact points on the door handle cause the locking and unlocking. guess only way to not have this happen is if you lock yourself in the car and give the attendant the keys and have him walk away...you would have to be a pretty trusting person for this though lol. I noticed the same issue when using the do it yourself hand/pressure wash stalls...

With comfort access, I thought the car would not lock you out if you left the key in the car?

I guess I should try that and just leave the key in the car or in the slot beside the steering wheel.

My alarm doesn't go off, but it keeps beeping, locking and unlocking the car. So I just leave the keys inside the car.
In Canada, a lot of options comes standard or with the premium package like comfort access and alarm. In the US everything is an option, that's why most people don't have this problem!

so when you leave your key in the car, do you leave it in that slot? And then it doesnt beep or flash correct?

The same thing happens to me at home IF I have the fob in my pocket when I am spraying water on the car. If I take the fob out of my pocket it stops.

I've been trying to figure this out too as it's a bit annoying and I actually set off the alarm washing the car one time. So to get around it, do I leave the key in the slot, so that when I'm outside spraying, it won't lock the door? Or can I lock my key inside?

Just throw the key in the front seat. This is not rocket science.

Yep, just leave the key in the car somewhere, doesn't need to be in the slot. I do it all the time, w/o issue.

Also, can't 'lock' the car with you in it because the alarm will go off as well, because of the interior motion sensor.

Thx. So w/ the key inside, the car will remain unlocked even if I press the door 'lock' sensor?

Well, when i first picked up my car from the dealership the dealer advised me not to forget one of the key's inside the car because the car wont lock in that case. Which sensor are you talking about?

There are 2 sensors on the door handle, one on the edge to lock and the other underneath the handle to unlock.
