Blendmount Radar Detector Mirror Mount

I searched the archives and don't see any mention of Blendmount, so I thought I'd share. I have radar detectors installed in all of my vehicles, out of an abundance of caution. Sometimes I do installed units, and sometimes just hardwire standalone units.

I have a custom installed detector in my M Roadster. I love that I don't have to worry about it being stolen during brief moments that I leave the top down and run in somewhere I consider relatively safe. But that unit doesn't have GPS, and the false alerts kill me.

So I wanted an Escort 9500 with GPS for the new (to me) Z4. Options were $1700 + installation for the CI (custom install) or $450 for the ix (standalone). I decided not to spend the ~$2K on the CI, so picked up the IX. But there was nowhere to mount it! Normally I would just suction it behind the tint strip at the top of the windshield but on the Z4 we don't have a tint strip so it looked awful, and it interfered with the sun visor operation.

I eventually found Blendmount (www.blendmount.com). $130 for our cars and well-designed, it allows the radar detector to be mounted below the mirror. It's sort of bulky, but not nearly as bad as the detector itself. It also seems to limit the adjustment range of the mirror, but I may have ordered the wrong one or not installed it properly.

I'm sharing because it met my needs and was the lesser of a few evils. Available for the V1 as well. They keep sending me discount codes for 10% off and if anyone is interested here's a link:

BTW I hard wired the detector to power overhead, but you can find instructions for doing that and advice against doing that elsewhere! And I don't have any affiliation whatsoever with blendmount or get any commission etc. etc.

Wiring

From another post, I see that he spliced in to the green-white wire on the plug closest to the passenger. That person simply grounded to the frame. I assume you used the mirrortap cord and if so, did you connect to the green-white? And where did you ground? Thanks very much.

Blendmount makes a great product. I still have the mount from my Camaro for the V1. Unfortunately the mount does not fit on the Z4
