Talk me out of an SLK
Had my Zed for nearly 3 years now and loved every mile (except in the snow!!) looking at another Zed or the new SLK for a change!!
Liking the SLK is like fancying your mates wife, you know it's wrong but you still do!! Thoughts.............. |

New style looks Jap to me. Headlights and front kinda reminds me of the Toyota MR2. Just my opinion.
I would totally go for an SL though...

I personally have always liked this car........but not as much as the Z4. The Mercedes says conservative to me!

Tell me what you think of that C63 Black Series .... now that is a sexy lady mind you I like the front end of the 550 SL much better. Then when you really think about it ... none of those cars can compare to your sleek and sexy Z4 So my advise hold on to her or get a brand new one a brand new Z4 that is, you cannot go wrong.

So... go ahead with the SLK But remember.... there are no SLK (except for the overpriced 55 AMG) than can match a 35i or 35is in terms of driving performance and emotions

See, we're different over here in the UK.....the 35i dont sell as well as the 23i I think it's because you can't use the 35i on our roads to it's full potential. I've been more than happy with the 23i if i'm honest, quick enough for what I want, so performance isn't the main thing. |

Hey Lux... It's also time for me to start looking around for what's next and to my eyes it's simply not as attractive as the Z or others for that matter. It is relatively rare at the moment so I suppose that could help make it look a little more interesting but how long will that last? The owner of a small restaurant that my wife and i frequent has one and, though i haven't driven it, he did give me the full tour. It's ok because it's new but with my car sitting next to his there is no comparison.... , the SLK is lumpy and ill proportioned.
For the same price (at least stateside) I'd be looking at the new Cayman or 2013 Boxster. Those lines are on par with the E89 and by all accounts surpass it in performance. Just my 2 bits |

This is how I see it. The Boxster is the pure performing, handling vehicle while the SLK is the polar opposite, it is the perfect everyday driving and not as "sporty". The Z4 is right in between, it is not too harsh for everyday driving and still very fun for spirited driving.
As for looks, the new Boxtser is nice but I am not a fan of soft-top convertibles so the Cayman is the only option for me really but then it's not a droptop. The SLK has become more masculine from it's previous gen and it looks good but I feel the with the roof up it doesn't flow as well as the Z4's. I also believe Z4 is one of the best looking hardtop convertible with either the top up or down.

Don't it, get the 28i, then wait for Kelleners Tuning to release the 450hp kit, or BMW to release its own Performance Power Kit. you won't happy, even in something which is actually very good (for something which is not a Z4)

I totally agree with those comments. One more factor is, if you lease, and even if you could arrange for the same MSRP (which you can't, feature for feature), you'd end up with much higher payments on the Porsche or Mercedes. And you'd be responsible for service. I first considered a Cayman as well. Great performing car! Just couldn't make it make sense.
