Roadster Solutions Windscreen Installed!

I am very happy with the Roadster Solutions windscreen. I installed it today and took my car for a short spin. The windscreen was super simple to install (peel adhesive backing, align brackets and stick). Slide the windscreen in and enjoy. My inital thoughts are:

1. I thought it would bother me to look through the windcreen when driving. It doesn't, I don't even notice it.
2. It doesn't rattle even at highway speed (test of time might be important here though).
3. It doesn't detract from the car at all. Even the brackets match the texture of the black trim already on the car.
4. With the top up, still looks fine and doesn't bother me driving.
5. Cuts the wind by about 70% I would estimate (enough to allow the top down and maintain good enough hair for work....female here)
5. Although for what it is, the price still seems high ($265 with delivery cost), it is cheaper than the OEM model and looks better in my opinion because it is clear.

See picture of windscreen that is attached (plus a few extra pictures of my baby...unfortunately the weather turned cloudy quickly today).

Your white car is a beauty, inside & out!

So, I notice that you also left a small space at the bottom. Was that intentional or is that just the way it installs?

That is the way it is installed. When the screen is pushed into the brackets, it will not slide so it is flush with the car. The groove in the brackets for the screen is not the full length of the bracket.

Does it slide out easy? I will need to pull it out when I track and go 130 MPH + on some straights

It is a tighter fit than I was expecting. The directions say it is designed to be a "semi permanent" installation. It can be removed for occasional storage and/or cleaning. I think it could be removed from time to time unless you go to the track each week. It is not made, for example, to be taken on and off each time the top goes down. I will probably remove it for the winter next year but until then it is staying put.

Thank you! I am loving this car! I tend to get a lot of comments about it because there are not many of them where I live. Got a thumbs up at a stop light from an ambulance driver the other day (don't worry he wasn't on a run!)!

Funny thing is, I washed the car and installed the windscreen. Came back outside to take a couple pictures and WHAM a bird had already found my clean car (the bird was kind enough to leave a deposit on the hood). Love the the color anyway........and at least the bird's gift didn't land on the interior!

Jayda,

I'm seriously considering buying this windscreen. Thanks for offering your initial impressions. I agree with you about the price. Over $200 for a piece of plexiglass is insanely high. Quick question: Does it seem like the plexiglass will scratch easily? Is it a heavy, thick type of plastic? Or does it feel like it could scratch easily. Obviously something sharp would scratch it easily. What I'm concerned about is normal cleaning will (over time) begin to cloud the plastic with scratches. Your thoughts?

Thanks,
Michael

It is very thick. In fact, thicker than I thought it would be. In terms of scratching, just make sure to use a soft cloth to clean it (not a paper towel). Also a Maguires plastic detailer was recommended for cleaning it. I used Einzett premium cockpit detailer (which can be used on plastics) on it after installing it which worked great to easily clean it. I've had this installed for several weeks, very happy with it.

Just bought and installed this windscreen as well.
Quality seems excellent and you can't see it looking in the rear view mirror.
As the price is 1/2 the OEM mesh (mentioned earlier) was an easy decision.

One thing though, the plexi looks like it will fit snug lengthwise between the two holders as there are cut outs in the plexi where some bumps would fit inside the grooves, but in fact the length is a little short. This means one side or the other isn't held totally in place by the groove tabs. Thought this would be an issue but the glass has not moved at all and seems fine.

I had the OEM mesh on my Z3 and i can attest that this is much quieter and seems to do a better job with wind flap.

I'd be concerned about the adhesive. Sure it may be strong at first, but after many days in the sun it will weaken over time. Wouldn't be pretty to have the adhesive give way while going 60+ miles on the highway. I wish they would have chosen a more secure connection.

I appreciate the valuable feedback. I think I'm going to spring for one (pardon the spring pun). Now the biggest hurdle, getting my wife to agree to spending $250 for a piece of plastic. I know saying it's half the price of the OEM won't help my argument. Wish me luck!

Tell her it's glass, she won't know.

I have said it before but I will say it again.
I have the OEM mesh unit. Hate it as it obscures the rear view.

However, what I really want is an aftermarket unit that fits into the factory mounts, as they are screwed onto the roll bars and have the internal mesh in each roll bar to block wind in that space (which the aftermarkets dont address.

Someone posted pics of a plexiglass install in the factory frame, but I'm not keen on that solution as the factory frame is on all four sides of the mesh / plexiglass and it therefore blocks some of the rear view.

Good morning, DR. I had the black mesh model on my Z3 and it was fine. Now my new Z4 is on the boat as we type and I am searching for a wind shield for it. I was just about ready to order the one from Roadster Solutiuons until I read your last post. You refer to "factory mounts". Can you explain a bit. Is this the system BMW sells which screws into the roll hoops? I assume you would like to buy the "factory mounts" and install the Roadster Solutions glass. Am I reading you right? I guess we only have 2 or 3 choices. Black mesh. Roadster solutions model, or the BMW model which is too expensive. Am I missing an options? Thanks.

Colorado and Dr. Stig - this may be what you're looking for. Clear glass, no frame, held in by screwed in brackets.

I have the same concern but i still went for one. I haven't installed mine yet since it's still 12 degrees Celsius here in Hong Kong.
In the summer, the temperature can get up to around 38 degrees Celsius here.
My plan is to perhaps check it every once in a while before I open the top and if there's any uncertainty I'd get them mounted on permanently.

I heard someone else mention having it on for 18 months and it's still rock steady.
I was wondering if anyone else had a longer experience with this adhesive type of windscreen?

This looks like a wonderful product. Unfortunately I don't know how to read German. I'm guessing "E" means euros. So if it cost 245 euro would that make it about $300-325? From the photos it looks like it attaches with adhesive, though.

Thoughts?
