Installation shouldnt be the same but helpful to get the idea of it ...

Has anyone put black grills on a blue Z4? I love the look of the black grills but I don't think they'll look good on my blue 09 but I could be wrong....

I am thinking about painting the grill teeth BBQ flat black and keeping the
chrome surround. That looked really good on our Z3.

Changed out grills within 15 minutes and without tools. I used my bare fingers to feel for the tabs to push in to release the grills. Once you get the first one done, the second is easy. Here is before and after:

They look great on white car too. You must have long and thin fingers to take the old ones out without the tools.

flpn ,
All black looks great on an all white car! My kid says I have 'monkey' fingers so I should have no problem swapping the grille.

These are stock H8 bulbs, still looking for a bright white solution similar to the new stock 335is models using LED.

VintageBMW - glad it all worked out. It definitely enhances the entire look!

I also like Wraith's black IS Z4 with the performance kidney grills. I'm keeping both in case I want to go back to the silver ones. I think they look good either way on black and white.

I think it looks amazing on AW. It looks good on all others except black. It looks exceptional on black if you have a lip spoiler.

For those that have changed their kidneys, what is the easiest way to get the old set off? I have tried many times to unclip all the clips but the bottom one won't come off for me because of the front bar. I know this is explained elsewhere but never in any detail.

It seems easy enough but the bottom clip is giving me a hard time

I started on the top 3 clips, then the 2 sides. For the bottom clips I was able to stick my hand from the top while slightly bending the grill towards you and work your way from 1st clip towards the center of the bumper then work your way out. See the arrow in the picture regarding the 1st bottom clip (having a hook tool would make it easier since you know where clipping points are to apply pressure to release them):

It was a nice day in San Francisco at 60 degrees. I decided to go out and try my new GoPro cam and take some pics of the new black kidneys installed.
