Did you test TTs before? I think this is a nice car.

I sat in a TTS Coupe at the Philly auto show and to be honest I was quite underwhelmed. The paddles felt sloppy and the interior leather really didn't feel very high quality.

Now that I'm reading lots of reviews complaining of turbo-lag, it doesn't bode well. My Saab 9-3 2.0T has lag to spare so I'm really looking to get away from that in my next car.

Quite like the exerior styling of the TTS though.

Actually, I was interested in TTS before I ordered my z4. I like TT mk2 when it just came out, it looks very good (especially with the LED day light). I have test drive a TTS roadster no long ago, it was pretty fast. The turbo lag didn't really bother me that much, once the rev goes up it's just fine. The sound is not bad either, you just can't believe it is a 4 cylinder engine cause it got so much power. Interior is well design and I like the paddle shift on the steering wheel (it is better the z4 with left down, right up). I still love this car, just can't wait for the TT-RS. The reason I choose z4 is because it looks even better than the good looking TTS, and the twin-turbo engine is silky smooth, hard top, 7 spd dual-clutch....the list go on. The only thing is the options are way too expensive in where I live which about the same price as Porsche's option.

Nice write up, but for $56k the Z4 3.0i is way overpriced.
The Audi may not be as "sublime" as they say, but it's a better performance car, has AWD, and IMHO looks better than the Z4.
So it's somewhat justified in charging $56k

But $56k for the Z4 and all you get is 230 hp.
I'd take two Miatas for that price.
Or better yet, a Miata and another car (like a GTI).

Or, a base e90 M3!!

BMW way overpriced the Z4, and made a mistake not offering a fixed hardtop version that weighs 250 lbs less for the enthusiast that doesn't care about having a convertible but doesn't want to lug around that extra 250 lbs of weight sucking it's performance away and sucking extra gas too.
I'd bet the Miata would give that Z4 3.0i a run for it's money on a tight turn road course or an auto-x event anyway.
On longer road courses the Z4 3.0i would take it (due to it's extra power for the straights) but in everyday canyon carving bet the Z4 3.0i couldn't outrun the Miata.

I think they did that with the E86 Coupe and it didn't sell. If more people had bought it instead of say a 3 series, BMW probably would have stayed the course. Now they're simply trying to avoid making the same mistake twice, which is why they're targeting a different customer segment.

BMW is without doubt, the ultimate driving machine. Even Jeremy Clarkson from Top Gear liked the way the BMW drives. The Ultimate driving experience that made Bimmers famous. =)

However, back at my land, Bimmers are way too expensive.
Z4 roadster sDrive 35i costs about S$245,800 (USD$168,911)
while the Audi TTS costs USD$158,184.

Exactly, the new Z4 looks like something Bond would drive. The TT imo looks like what Bruno would be happy to be seen in.

I also considered TTs because of its appearance (i like the new LEDs light) and of course its powerful engine. But, I changed my mind once seeing the actual Z4 and drove it. I always think i made the right choice. In my situation, BMW wins twice. I selected 3 series over A4 some years ago. Now, I selected Z4 over TTs. At the same time, I also made drive test for SLK and boxster. I also like the handling of Boxster, but it is too expensive here. US$13,000 extra compared with Z4 s35i to get a basic Boxster without any option. I don't like the interior design of slk.

I am really happy to buy the Z4, but just need to wait for long delivery.

I am surprised the price tag you said. Buying a car in my place is expensive. But, still just half of yours.

Shenglin, you need to win a small jackpot to buy a Z4 in your country.

In Hong Kong,
Retail price of z4 30i : HK$374,595.00
1st registration tax: HK$213,405.00
Licence fee: HK$7,550.00
No. Plate: HK$160.00
Lic. Registration: HK$83
TAVA: $114.00
Rebate for manual version: -HK$5000

Total: HK$590,907.00 (US$75,760.00)

More expensive than US and UK!

TT is a good car, powerful engine (cant imagine how the engineers get so much power from a v4 turbo!), nice interior.

But the new z4 is much better on look, more like a MAN's car (suprised the car is deisgned by women!), more spacious than TT/TTS.

With superchargers and turbochargers, one can make huge horsepower using really small displacement, and they certainly have done that in racing for many years.

The difference is that race engines only have to finish one race and they are torn apart and rebuilt. I guess the new F1 rules require a power plant to survive 5 races, or something like that.

By for a normal car that needs to provide the owner with many reliable miles, why force so much horsepower from a small power plant. I'll bet a normally aspirated version of that engine probably couldn't even move the car away from a stop light. And they complain about turbo lag - it's no wonder.

Briefly considered the TTS, but the lack of a manual transmission killed it for me.

The previous Z4 coupe was dammed ugly which is why nobody bought it including me. The fabric top was much better looking but i hate fabric tops so i bought a e92; 3-series coupe.
Love the new metal drop top Z4, very tempted to get one early next year

Seriously? I think it is one of the hottest looking cars around, and definitely looks better than the convertible, which is what I drive. Oh well, it's a matter of taste (you're wrong of course ).

Yes, our personal and profit tax is very low compared with other countries. We do not have any GST as well. Buying a car here is rather expensive compared with that in Europe and USA, but the price tag is still half of yours....

+1

I love the look of the Bangle Z4 Coupe, every line of it. Sometimes I think people would like everything to look like a Miata, smooth with almost no definition. Sure, Bangle's design is controversial, it's different, but particularly the Z4 Coupe because it does not have that "Mass Market" appeal, is what makes it unique and will stand the test of time.
