Brembos for the E89?

I sent Brembo a couple emails over the past few weeks asking the status of making a front and rear brake kit for our e89's, with no reply. Has anyone got any official word as to timing/availability?

I spoke with Chris at Dinan yesterday (Tuesday 9-15) and he said that they are working with Brembo for a Dinan/Brembo brake package. In addition, the larger Oil Cooler and Intercooler are to be released for the Z4 this month along with the Stage 3 software. I will be buying the larger oil cooler and Brembos when they become available.

Good to know, Thanks.

I'd still like to see a Brembo pkg for those of us who might not want to go the whole nine yards with a Dinan pkg. While seeking better braking performance, I'm also seeking better looking brake calipers as the 329M wheels show just how horrid the stock brakes look.

There is always the BMW Performance brake kit. Seems very reasonably priced to me.

Do they make it for the e89's? I'm not seeing they are according to the site:

but I think the problem is that these Performance brakes are actually smaller than the stock calipers on the 35i???? I might be wrong. In addition, nothing is available for the rear of the car.

....and for me, a big part of doing an upgrade is to get something better looking than the parts-pile calipers we have. Even my BMW Motorcycle, which at 1/3 the cost of my Z4 has better looking brakes!

6-pot calipers look pretty sharp.

Is this an E89 installation with the 135i kit? Seems as if it was a direct cross over to the E89 from the 135i - BMW would advertise it as such. I'd anti up for it. But if they are not going to back it warranty wise, I'll wait for the specific design kit. I imagine it will come out eventually, the car is only 18 months out of the box. In the meantime I will burn up my stock set of pads/rotors they stop good enough. I certainly agree with Mr Breeze - as my R1150RT has better looking calipers.

I understand it's a 3 series 335i that fits.

I think my 1977 BMW R100S Cafe has better looking brakes. I will probably drop the $6k+ to upgrade all the brakes when the Brembos become available - I am thinking black calipers with white lettering or silver with red.

+1 Thats for sure. They do seem to be having their problems these days. I had put some drilled Brembos on the frt of the wifes 325. Order a set of back rotors from Brembo to match in June. Mid Sept still getting the same 60+ days before receipt. Still out of stock - now were getting them made in Italy. Now I understand - all the Italians were on their summer holiday in Aug, then they went up to Milan to watch the Italian F1 GP last weekend. I guess they'll get back to work when the racing season is over. Finally gave up on them and went with StopTechs.

I would gladly use StopTechs on all four corners - where did you order them from (I hope a site sponsor)?

StopTech has a fantastic product in their BBK's. On the Brembo F40/F50 calipers they use two different piston sizes to compensate for caliper flex. Under hard braking the caliper flexes causing uneven pad wear and some loss of braking power. StopTech design has a bridge at the top of the caliper that eliminates the flex so they can use equal sized pistons. Great company to work with. If they do not have a e89 specific kit they will work with you to put one together.

The Brembo Monoblock calipers are in a class by themselves but extremely expensive and way overkill on anything short of a dedicated race car.

I bought them (325 rear rotors) at Buybrakes. OK I give - where's the listing of site sponsors on this forum?

I give too - surely I could find a list of site sponsors??? I know some from their posts but where is the list? Anyway, do I understand that you have Stoptech 325mm calipers on the rear brakes? If so, I thought that could not be done due to the electric parking brake?

The Brembo and StopTechs are on my wifes 325. I was just agreeing with Memphis and commenting on how it was likely to be near 180 days before Brembo could backfill stock parts for a 6+ year old car. So I went with the Stoptech rear rotors for the 325 rather than wait 3+ more months.

I not expecting Brembo or any manufacturer to really start build and stocking replacement or performance brake rotors, pads for our Z4's (E89's) for probably another year due to the small number and relatively new production. It wouldn't be cost effective. They might get a few takers for big bucks - I will wait.

Silver-Bolt what installation is the pic from?

Silver-bolt,

It does look good!! But I'll still wait to burn up the stock rotors/pads before swapping out -see what's available then. It will probably be about 2 years from now.

Thanks!

BUMP - for new information from Brembo.

Brembo just recently released two front brake kit applications for the E89 Z4.

365x29mm 2pc. full floating w/ 4-piston Monoblock calipers

And

380x32mm 2pc. full floating w/ 6-piston Monoblock caliper

Either kit will be properly balanced as a front only kit, for use with factory master cylinder and ABS. Brembo developed the two different systems in order to provide the best wheel fitments for track customers, or street customers running larger wheels.

Someone above mentioned that monoblock prices were "extremely expensive and overkill for anything other than a dedicated track car" but we have sold dozens of monobloc kits for BMW's and the benefits for even weekend track customers, or aggressive street drivers come into play almost every day. We've done quite a few of their new systems for under $3000 which is less expensive than a lot of other systems that aren't monobloc, and definitely aren't Brembo.

If you want more information on kits for the Z4, PM me.
