I am having a hard time deciding on extended warranty. Should I stick with Carmax or extend BMW CPO?

I bought extended from Carmax because I could only do so during purchase. My car has CPO warranty until the end of this September and it has 21k miles.

Carmax said BMW would accept their insurance but BMW refuted this statement. They quoted me 6 years/100k for $2849 for 7 years/100k for $3409.

What are your experiences with Carmax extended? Has anyone successfully used it at BMW before?

Check out this post by Doug DeMuro about his Carmax warranty and his Range Rover. There have been updates since then that are all along the same line: It absolutely has paid for itself for him. I'm not sure what the process is; if you take it to Carmax and they look at it in case it's a generic issue they can solve and if not they take it to the dealership, if they give you authorization, or what.

Any service center willing to call an extended warranty bcompang and get repairs approved is not a problem.

Thanks! That was an interesting read. I am not exactly sure on the process either. The Carmax salesperson told me I could just go to any BMW dealership and they would honor the warranty. I'll find out about the particulars.

Good point. I meant the local BMW dealer. I guess it depends on the service adviser huh?

I was told the same thing. I too have a carmax warranty. I would love to know as well. So far I have not had to use it and this is why I haven't really looked that hard. But from what I know any shop that will except it can use the warranty. It's basically a call and see if the qualify as a warranty shop.

This is true. Yet a dealership has more pull and knowledge about the cars so I would go that route. Because the rep they send out as long as you get a good dealer can't question an expert.

2 weeks later, the horn stopped working. total repair: $319.21
3 weeks later, the steering wheel stops working. total repair: $1,332.93
1 week later, the limited slip differential is no longer limited. total repair: $2,194.43

remember, the carmax bumper to bumper warranty costs me $3,900. i've already recouped all of it.

2 weeks later, the limited slip differential, steering wheel, and now, the gearbox only moves in reverse even when you put it in D. total repair cost: $14,093.81!

I would like to know who did your work? Was it carmax or the dealer? That is really strange you had so many issues. Do you have electric steering or the M package steering? And as far as your trans do you have DCT? How did you convince them to pay for that all. They must hate you. Lol

What model do you have list your specs.
