LPFP upgrade?

Has anyone here upgraded to the Fuel-It Stage 2 LPFP?

I understand the 1er and 3er cars bear little resemblance to ours. That said, I'm wondering how one gets to the in-tank pump on the Z4?

Thanks,

Filippo

Bob ... of course it does ... it's a Z4. I'm surprised it doesn't need disassembly of the roof

The roof only needs to be disassembled if a Harvest Moon falls on the 3rd Thursday of the month.

Sounds like you want mo power! After coils, pump, and E85 comes clutch and Single Mass Flywheel.... Where will it end

Right now my focus is to get the 93 pump gas setup rock solid. Bimmerlife ignition and N20 plugs are going in and I'm hoping a couple more passes with Dimitri and all is good on 93 octane.

I'm researching the fuel system now, along with jts1981, as I see Exx in my future. I am skittish on the BMW fuel system (as you know). But yes I'd like to look at going to an ethanol mix - I think it is the easiest next step in the development process.

After that ... the next step is turbos, Bob!

Oh boy! Single or dual turbos? I can see carbon fiber drive shaft and upgraded 1/2 shafts in the future..... more to follow

Unfortunately, Bob, Z4 parts are so often unique. As it is with the driveshaft (so no Mfactory dry carbon for me). Not really worried about turbos yet (too far out). Besides I'm waiting for jts1981 to do all the research ... he's good at it :-)

I have been looking at the steering, but I don't see anyone programming the EPS units on BMW cars. M3 rack swaps are being done (it is a bit tricky) on some 1er and 3er cars, but alas the Z4 steering seems unique. This winter I'll move to camber/caster plates which will take rubber out of the top mount, and I'll dial in some more caster which will probably clean up the steering. As it stands now, the spherical bearing in the tension strut, with M3 arms and strut tower brace were good improvements on steering.

See you at C&C in a few weeks!

The fuel tank does not need to be dropped to access the LPFP. Also, the Z4 has a different LPFP/system then the 1 and 3 series cars have. It is practically a stage 2 pump already, so you're not going to see much if any improvement over stock by switching it for a stage 2. Back when I had my stock turbos, I had all the bolt-ons, including the Fuel-it throttle body injection kit and upgraded fuel line, running 100% E85 and the stock Z4 LPFP was keeping up just fine.

Agreed - no need to drop the tank.

You only need to drain the tank and access the fuel pump from under the car.

My pump was making a terrible whine noise so I replaced it with the Fuel-It stage 2. I also have their larger fuel line and have an ethanol sensor in place with the blue-tooth app.

I need some clarity on this... Is the LPFP feeding the TBI? I need some help for the HPFP on my e60 tune. Down the road I'll try the VTT shotgun, but maybe the easy fix is tbi. Any advice/ feedback?

Yes, when I had stock turbos and FBO including inlets and outlets, I had the stock LPFP running through an upgraded 6an fuel line from the gas tank to an ethanol sensor, then it fed the TBI kit which comes with a fitting that attaches to the HPFP input fuel line.... I was running about 21psi on a 100% E85 MHD Wedge tune and it was probably around 500whp... So you definitely shouldn't have a problem only running E60.

Hello Eracer,

Can see that you have a VRSF race 7.5. How is the fitting on z4? I have IAT issue with my actual FMIC and Dimitri can t make me the best tune possible like this...I want to upgrade to the HD but not available for now so the race can be a good option. Can you give us a feedback of it and why did you choose this one instead of the hd?

Thanks

Also waiting for VTT Shotgun since my HPFP can t hold more than e45 with 22 psi (stage 1 turbos). Hope it will be not too hard to fit with our z4

VTT just ran a $200 off special for the shotgun (and this is the new billet version). I ordered mine this afternoon, as did one other forum member here. First 15 orders get the discount. It's posted on spool street.

The 7.5 race is a tight fit and some plastic trimming was needed, but I made it work without much of a problem. The stock mounting points worked fine to hold it up, but I did drill them out and installed some bigger screws/bolts to hold it in place, since its so heavy. I have MMP silicone turbo outlets that hooked up to the intercooler coupler just fine, but I'm not sure if the stock Z4 outlet connection at the intercooler would need modifying or not. As for the cold side, the intercooler comes with a 90 degree silicone coupler, which does not work with the Z4. I had to buy a longer straight silicone coupler off eBay in order to hook it up to the charge pipe since its routed under the AC compressor instead of over it like on the other cars.

I chose the 7.5 race over the HD because I was also upgrading to the MMP turbos at the same time and I wanted the best one possible for the money. The intercooler works amazing with these turbos! I was at a Shift Sector 1/2 mile event in August and it was 85 degrees outside... Most of the runs my IAT's were starting out around 95 degrees and even after running it through 5 gears at 160 mph, the highest IAT I recorded for the day was 118

The stock mounting setup for the FMIC is the biggest piece of BMW anti-engineering I've ever seen from BMW. Total BS. I agree with Eracer76 in running much longer screws - at least that helps the flimsy setup.

I have a complete lpfp bucket assembly for sale if anyone is interested in upgrading to a Walbro pump. It is fairly easy to install.

You certainly don’t have to drop the tank.

I missed the 200 deal for the shotgun, yesterday afternoon was already too late so I'll wait the reviews for z4 before I'll order it since I'm in europe, don't want bad suprises since return would be PITA.

Thanks for your review Eracer, can you give me the link for what you bought for the z4 fitment please?

Not yet but they are being shipped now. The black friday deal is actually a little less than what I paid. Good deal. BTW all VTT stuff is 20% off. I'm having a hard time not ordering a set of GC lites ...
