Cargo Separator Repair
Really, BMW come on, these bloody things were made to break at some point, and one of mine did. So some clearance checks and one stainless (I don't do rust) bolt and lock nut later and done. I'd have done the other side as well but I am interested to see how long it lasts.
So has anyone else broke theirs?

I'd guess everyone will have this problem sooner or later. I just had mine replaced (out of warranty!) for the second time. My dealer has been really good about this, but next time I will have to repair as you did. My question is "What WERE they thinking when they designed these brackets as snap-fit? This is German engineering at its best?!

i used self tapping screws that solved my issue.

Yup, mine did the same. I think if you put something hard sided, or ram a piece of luggage and it hits one of those brackets, they are toast. I drilled out all 3 of those stupid snap fit bolts and replaced with metal bolts. Looks and performs just fine now

When you pull the protector forward and it stops it keeps putting a load on the plastic. If the plastic was had a bit more meat to it, it wouldn't break.
You can see from the video how the load is constant trying to split the bracket apart. |
