28i? Or 20i with M-Sport?

I fell in love with the current Z4 and decide to get my first BMW.
However I can't make up my mind on a 28i or a 20i with M-Sport package.

Here are my consideration points:
1.I'm in HK. Price between these two choices is more or less the same.
2. 28i has more power, but 20i can be chipped in aftermarket (but I worry about safety, insurance coverage, or any damage on the durability of the engine).
3. I like the M-sport aerodynamic kit but don't like the sport seat ( not that comfort I think ).

Would any z owner give me advise on the pick? As we can only test drive a 20i without M-sport package in HK dealer. Cannot have a test drive on a 28i or M-Sport package.

28i, you can chip it to 35i power, visuals are cheaper and easier to upgrade then engine

Agreed. Get the 28i. Its is much quicker than the 20i and warranty stays intact etc.

28i for sure, and I think the 8 speed automatic is a good choice for a transmission. When I test drove a 35i with 7 speed DCT and 28i with 8 speed auto the difference was noticeable but very slight.

28i of course.... At a time, BMWHK runs promotional discounts on exterior accessories; including the M kit...
Even if you do not chip it, view the roads in HKG and the speed cameras spread like mushrooms, You would only ask for more than the 28i if you are a car fanatic...

Good luck

If the price is about the same, I'd say 28i for sure. I personally think the sport seats are much more comfortable than the regular seats. With the regular seats I feel like I'm going to slide off of it every time I take a turn.

If the price is pretty much the same, I would also say 28i.
Other argument: it will be easier to resell a bigger engine.

28 - always go for the biggest engine you can afford. Other stuff can be changed over time. Good luck with your choice & enjoy the drive!

The 20i and the 28i have the same engine. Only ecu-program should be different.

The sport-seats are a "must-have" in my opinion.

You can debate this at a lot of BMW engines...
