Each car is a unique situation, you can't just blanket statement that all cars will benefit from an air filter. Tires, maybe. Or with turbo cars, an ECU flash. The one part that is the performance bottleneck on a car will net you the highest performance gains, and so on down the rabbit hole.

Depends on what attributes of "performance" we are talking about but imo overall performance would mean many line items together properly upgraded & configured/tuned together..
for the application.. ie.. you could put the tune on the ECU garnering more power but be unable to efficiently put it to the road cause yer tires suck or running around a track at sustained high speeds experiencing brake fade or overheating |

Tires are the single most important factor. The oEM Bridgestones on mine were very good but now I use Michelin SS.

A car engine is an air pump, the more air/fuel you can get through it the more performance you get. It needs to breath, so intake, exhaust and timing. This can be achieved by a number of things. Throttle body or carb, headers, valves and timing will do that. Tires are a handling issue as is suspension, firmer shocks, stickier tires and better breaks all will help with performance, but you really want to get the engine to breathe, this is a bigger issue and more easily addressed with older cars but will get you lots of bang for the buck.

1. Driver 2. Tires 3. Brakes (Fluid, Pads, Lines, will do for most street driving. BBK-extreme) 4. Chassis upgrades (stiffer) 5. Driver 6. Intake - higher flow air filter or ram air, etc. As long as it's cool air. 7. De Cat/higher flow Cat and replace all three exhaust sections. 8. Driver 9. Chip. 10. Driver This should yield a higher performing vehicle. The most significant improvements will be with Driver Mods, Tires, and Brakes.

Reducing weight. Take away all unnecessary things like seats, airbags, AC, insulation, etc. Reduce unsprung weight ie wheels, brakes, etc. Best tires you can afford and improving the driver or just be a dick and get a GT3RS.

I know I'll be in the minority here, but I don't think chassis stiffening has any emperical evidence to support its supposed benefits.
But driver and tires would be the best. |
