'electronically controlled engine cooling' feature
What exactly is that? I remember after a hard run in the Audi TTS and other cars, the fan would be running to cool off the engine after I parked them. However, in the Z4, there is no such fan (EDIT: I don't hear an audible fan), so I'm wondering what is happening here to cool the engine? Thx.

electronically controlled simply means there's more than just a thermostat for the car to rely on when it gets hot.. here's the fan...

I think I understand what you are asking. The N54 uses the ecu-controlled electric coolant pump for heat dissipation after the hot motor is turned off. I've never heard the fan either post shut down. It also protects the turbos from heat soak. It is a pretty powerful pump capable of circulating up to 2400 gal/hr. I think I can hear it sometimes after shutting down but it is pretty quiet (unlike the boisterous in-tank fuel pump).
Here's some excerpts from a BMW NA training guide on the N54: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38856. |
