Question JB3 Tuning on Z4 35i DTC

Has anyone installed the JB3 tuning kit on their Z4 35i yet?

If so, how much HP did you get. Did you need to make any other modifications? Or did it run on stock air intake / exhaust?

What about the DTC automatic dual clutch gear box, can it handle the torque/hp?

I will have a JB3 + Dual cone intake installed this Tuesday on my Z4 3.5. I will let you know how it goes. I have the same setup on my 135i and I love it. I am going to dyno both cars after to see how much they're putting out....

running JB3, map 7 on a dyno yields me 55whp more on a otherwise stock car. no issues with dct as far as I can tell. Been running this setup for 2 mths and no issues so far. Hope this helps!

would it be too much to ask for step by step pics or video?

Check out the 'tube and the vendor's website. Here's taste from the 'tube. They show a 335i but you can make transition. The e89 is easier because the ecu box is directly accessible, whereas the 3235i is buried.

JB3 Tuning on Z4 35i DTC

The JB3 PNP and BMS Dual Intakes were installed last week on my Z4 35i 7sp with 1500 miles on it. I don't plan on doing any racing, but wanted 'next level' performance at a reasonable price and minimal risk of damaging my car.

I've been using Map 3 (91 octane in CA) and in the first 5 days or so, everything seems to be running just fine. I've not done any measurements, but there is without a doubt a pretty dramatic increase in acceleration/power. Let me put it this way, my prior car was an M6 and the Z4 with JB3 is certainly enough to put a smile on my face when I hit the gas.

The car seems to actually run a little smoother and it doesn't seem to have had any material effect upon my gas mileage. In fact, it's gone up slightly (18.8mpg prior to JB3 and 18.9 for the 5 days after JB3) - even though I've probably driven the car a bit harder (I know there are many other factors that can affect mileage)

I got the impression from BMS that so long as fairly conservative maps are run, there should be no problems with the Z4. Time will tell, but so far I'm happy with it.

You should do the PnP for sure. It is far cleaner and faster to install and take off for warranty work on the car. If anyone has questions about the JB3 or JB+ please feel free to call me.

I'm just thinking about putting the JB+ in my car and have no info on the reliabilty etc of this product. I can't drive the car until next spring so it's no rush (the snow is a little deep ). The cost seems so much lower than others like ESS & Dinan so I wnder how good it really is.
Comments and advice please.....

(I traded my M3 for a new 09 Z4 s35i)

I have had the JB+ installed (at 100%) for approx. 7,500 miles. Car runs great and I can remove or reinstall the JB+ in about 2 minutes. Very easy in the Z4. Not as good as the JB3 for sure, but good power for very little money and effort. I have Bavarian Technic cable and have never found any hidden tuner codes on the ECU. I did have to have my fuel pump replaced, but I do not think it was related to the JB+. Happy tuning!

It plugs into the TMAP sensor just underneath the airbox. Very easy to reach on the Z4. I think there are instructions on www.burgertuning.com. No dyno runs. There is a dyno chart for the JB+ installed on a 335 with 93 octane on Terry's site as well. IIRC, it makes about 40hp and 50 lb/ft. of torque, very noticeable difference in power.

Hopefully i receive it soon, i will TRY to make a good installation video. It will be my first time on a BMW, so it might not be a very smooth video.

I did an ecu upgrade on my old audi a3, that was very easy.

Twin Turbo thanks for the PM about the JB+. I may decide to order that as well or wait for the Dinan flash. I plan to do the upgrade next year after the Christmas expenses.

I must say, having JB3 in my Z truly made it a different car. Running map 5 atm without any error codes, and the power is insane. It makes me laugh out loud every time i put my foot down
