Garage door remote sync
I've tried several times to enable the Homelink remote in my 2011 Z4. I can't get it to sync . My garage door opener is new a chamberlin 8500 that uses rolling codes. the steps I've used are the following.
1 cleared the homelink memory by holding the 1 and 3 button for 20 seconds. fast blink 2 Held the 1 button while pushing the remote. after 30 seconds it should fast blink but cannot get it to do it 3 after the fast blink I then push the learn button the garage opener then on the homelink click the 1 button 3 times I can't get step 2 to work so step 3 does not apply Anyone else have a similar issue . if so any suggestions? |

Won't work unless the car is either running or the accessory position is on. It's been awhile since I programmed mine, but I think it order to get the transmitter to sync, I actually had to keep pushing the transmitter button on and off pretty fast... I tried just pushing the transmitter (remote) once and holding the button down and that never worked for me.

I'm pretty sure you need switch step 3 with step 2. I have 3 bmw's and they all work with my Chamberlain (same model as yours).
1. Press the learn button the opener motor in the garage 2. RUN to the car (I think you have 30 or 60 secs, can't recall) 3. Place the garage opener within 2 inches of the mirror/button 4. Press and hold both the opener button as well as one of the buttons on the mirror Worked every time for me. Dave

You can always call Chamberlin and have them guide you thru it

OP, you are missing a step where you need to hit the "learn" button on your garage door opener unit (i.e. the thing bolted to the roof of your garage)
My garage door opener is not Chamberlain but it has rolling codes as well, and in addition to the steps you mentioned (which are to get the car's remote to learn the frequencies from the garage remote) you need to press the "learn" button on the garage door opener to let it know that it should register a new remote control. You need to look for the manual for your garage door opener to find the specific steps for your unit. Good luck. It shouldn't take more than 5 minutes once you have all the correct steps outlined in front of you. |

That's how I programmed mine, finally figured it out after fiddling with it for a couple of hours over night. |

I contacted Chamberlin as I have tried a bunch of times doing exactly what has been written along with what homelink has recommended. Chamberlin said the new openers also can be controlled via smartphone and they had to change the frequency of the remote control . they said the fix is to install a repeater located next to the opener. they send them out for free but you need to pay for shipping $7.00. I confirm this is the fix once it arrives
